75: Pinky promises

Shawn's POV:
Thirteen years earlier

"Y/N, I have something for you!" I called. She giggled and messed with her pigtails.

"What?" She asked. I proudly pulled my hands out from behind my back. Dangling from each hand was a necklace with a heart shaped charm on it.

"These are our promise necklaces. They promise that we won't ever leave each other and that we will only be best friends." I smiled proudly. She took one of the necklaces and pulled it over her head while I did the same.

Present time

"The building on your right is the main dining hall where you will be eating all of your meals that you have on your meal card." The tour guide begins to explain. I glance down at the folder the welcome desk had given me when I had first arrived. Suddenly, I feel a tap on my shoulder and I snap my head to the right.

A familiar looking face is right at shoulder level. But I can't put my finger on who it is.

"Shawn?" She whispers. Immediately, everything clicks.

"Holy crap, Y/N!" I exclaim, pulling her to me. She giggles her usual, all-too-familiar laugh.

"Wait, are you going to college here?" She mutters into my chest.

"Yeah, I enrolled last week." I reply. She grins widely.

"Come on you two, unless you want us to leave you behind." The tour guide calls us out. I release Y/N and we keep walking, following the group. Y/N reaches into her pocket and pulls out a bunch of keys. And the key chain is our necklace.

"You kept that?" I laugh, pulling out my own keys. I had done the same thing once we had gotten separated after middle school.

"Yeah! I can't believe you kept and made yours a keychain too!"

"I kept mine because I didn't want to break our promise. I never break pinky promises." I wink.

"We've got a ton of catching up to do, huh?"

"We really do! How about we meet up later at that coffee shop we passed on the way here. Say, six o'clock?" I offer.

"Deal. Now let's pay attention."
