77: Affair

Y/N's POV:

"Ella!" I exclaim. She clears her throat awkwardly and adjusts the bottom of her shirt.

"I have to tell you something. You can't be mad at me." She mutters.

"Um, okay? What's up?" I invite her in. She awkwardly clears her throat again, sitting uncomfortably on the couch. I do the same, waiting for some sort of explanation.

"I think Shawn is having an affair." She chokes out. Immediately, it feel as if my throat has closed up. I hold my breath, trying to hold back tears.

But it all makes sense. Late nights at work. Fiddling with his wedding ring. The awkward silence in bed at night.

"Holy crap, Shawn's been having an affair." I try to swallow at the knot in the back of my throat.

"I saw him and Ember out at the bar last night. I'm sorry, girl." She says soothingly. The front door to the apartment opens, and Shawn comes in, rubbing his forehead. I choke back the tears brimming in my eyes so that he doesn't notice.

"Oh, hey baby. Hey, Ella." He smiles. I push myself of the couch, Ella following my lead.

"I'm going to head out. I'll talk to you later,
Y/N." Ella says, walking out of the open front door. I fake a tight lipped smile and shut the door behind her.

Shawn comes over to me and plants a kiss on my lips. His lips have touched another's.

"You want some dinner?" He murmurs, grinning.

"Shawn, I know you're having an affair." I blurt. I can't keep it hidden now that I know. His face pales and he licks his lips.

"Uh, what are you talking about?" He asks.

"You're having an affair with Ember." I step back.

"What? Baby, I-"

"Don't call me baby, Shawn. You cheated on me!" I yell. My voice is shaking as I try not to start crying.

"Y/N, please let me explain." His voice is a whisper.

"Alright, explain." I place my hand on my hip, annoyed.

"I-I went out with Ember because..." He pauses and looks down at his hands, picking at his finger nails.

"Exactly, Shawn. You cheated on your wife. I can't believe you." I shout, tears falling onto my cheeks. "How long has this been going on?"

"Two months." He says, ashamed. He refuses to look me in the eye.

"Leave." I cry. He looks up at me, his face hardened and showing no emotion.

"Y/N, please." He pleads.

"What? What more could you want?" I yell.

"I made a mistake. I'll stop everything with Ember, just please give me another chance." He begs. I cross my arms and roll my eyes.

"Are you kidding me?" I grit my teeth.

"No, I'm serious. Y/N, I love you and I don't want anyone other than you." His voice begins to shake.

"Shawn, can I ask you a few questions?" I wipe the tears from under my eyes. His eyes brighten a little.

"Yes, go ahead."

"If you love me, why did you cheat on me?"

"I-I don't know."

"Shawn, I believed with everything in me you were different than the other guys I've dated. I married you because of that. But you're not different." I'm now sobbing uncontrollably. He tries to pull me in for a hug, but I jerk back. "Leave, Shawn. I never want to see you again."

"I'm sorry, Y/N. I love you. I'm done with Ember. Whatever we had going on is over. I want to work through this with you."

"This isn't something we can work through. You've ruined our marriage. So take your stupid ring and leave." I cry, taking off my ring and throwing it at him. He catches it and hangs his head in shame, turning and leaving our apartment for the last time.
