Sabin stood in the window as sunlight streamed through the pane. It was a long, exhausting night of pulling information from Yulan and Kaita. Kaita had spent a few months with the Rwabu and had given him a pendant, one that would lead him out of the Wastelands. He was confident he wouldn't need it given his ability to light, but she was insistent.

Yulan's transcript involved long, rusty shards of metal jutting out of fine brown dirt and ugar restraining themselves from killing humans. It would have been easy to call his brother a liar, but Kaita corroborated most of what he said. The only exception was something about a city he saw for a few moments.

It was likely a mirage, but most likely wasn't certainly.

My brother.

That was a hard term to wrap his head around. Yulan was desperate to gain his affection that was clear to anyone with working eyes. As much as Yulan wanted to find his Wing, Sabin got the feeling that this meeting would have happened regardless.

Yulan needed him on a primal level, but he did not feel that same pull.

Sabin knew he was the problem.

He was not capable of lighting them during the night, so Turrent had run of to lead Las Escoltas away from the four of them. He should be back soon, so Sabin had little time to figure out what to do with Kaita.

Yulan and Alaina's destination was already determined.

"Where are you taking them?" Kaita asked. She leaned against the wall, he staff propped just beside her.

"It's better if you didn't know. You should come up with a destination for yourself."

"I should go to the Wastelands with you," she said. "I know it better and could help you navigate it."

Sabin shook his head. "I want to look at it with fresh eyes. Besides-"

"It would be better if you did this alone," she finished.

Sabin smiled. It felt good having Kaita here. She understood him, even better than he understood himself.

"But you would take me with you, if that's what I decide?"

"Yes," Sabin said. "I owe you that much and more."

Kaita smiled.

Alaina walked into the room with her travel bag slung over her shoulder. She was dressed in another one of those white dresses, though he had no idea where she was keeping the spares, given how the fullness of the skirt. She yawned. "I feel a little guilty for taking a nap."

Kaita tapped her on the shoulder. "I think being stabbed gets you a pass."

Yulan snickered.

"You're a special case."

"Is the wound any better?" Sabin asked.

"Yes." She grimaced and touched her stomach. "Internal injuries are a lot more difficult."

"You should have told me she was still injured, Yusabin."

"What could you have done Yulan?"

"Much," he said. "Do you not remember Ira's training?"

Sabin slapped his forehead. When Ira found him in Sikati she'd hurt of two friends and broke one of their arms. Then she healed it like it was a minor scrape.

"My training was unorthodox," he said. "She never taught me how to use fire, but it would make sense she taught you."

Yulan nodded and walked up to Alaina.
