Leena dropped down from her horse, Lake, and rubbed her backside. All those days in the saddle blurred into a continuous stream of discomfort and a lack of sleep. The seat of her blue tights were nearly worn away. Not to mention the sores on top of sores that lie beneath.

She sighed and rubbed the light brown palfrey's back. "I love you girl, but I'm glad to be off you."

Lake whinnied in understanding.

The elder of her companions, Zannick dropped from his saddle and stretched his skinny arms wide. The spotted horse he rode was Alaina's, but the girl wasn't around to ask and they needed a horse immediately. Besides, the girl could fly. Did she really need a horse?

After a few twists, Zannick cartwheeled in front of her and flourished his hand. "This my dear is Ciudad Reina, the Empress's City."

Unlike Ciudad Naranja, which was built in a rocky and harsh climate, Ciudad Reina opened into lush grass and oppressive humidity. The home construction was mostly the same: gray, cylindrical adobe homes with a braided straw roofing dominated the horizon. However, at the center of the city lay a giant complex, whose walls sparkled as if silver had been imbued into its adobe walls. Its roofing was wood where the others had been straw and a black dome protruded in the middle.

Sakima dropped from his horse and landed gracefully to the ground. He didn't stretch or moan like she and Zannick had, because his horse, Hunter was in a different class and a smooth ride. Sakima cleared his throat and pointed at the bulb. "Doesn't it look like a-?"

"-giant tit," Leena finished. "Yeah, it does."

Zannick snickered. "The imagery is intentional, I assure you. It's called El Amor de la Reina, or the Empress's Love. We all suckle the breast of the Empress for sustenance."

Leena shook her head and smiled.

Her stomach took that moment to rumble, producing a sound she was convinced echoed throughout the city. The benefit was it gave her excuse to practice her Hruh-ya. Zannick drilled her in the fundamentals of the language during the trip, but she knew unless she practiced, it would be all for naught.

No time like the present.

"I could go for some chicken," she said to Zannick in Hruh-ya. "I can practically taste it."

Zannick snickered.

"What?"

He held up his hands. "Nothing."

Leena narrowed her eyes. He liked to call himself the Trickster and his position with the Empress was predicated on him making others look like fools. While Turrent's pranks held a certain charm, this man was just irritating.

I can't believe I miss that asshat.

Zannick led them deeper into the city, to a place he said made the best arroz con pollo in all of Hruh. On the way, Leena noted the looks Sakima received. He seemed oblivious to the whole ordeal, instead taking in all the sights of the city. Women treated him to open stares and lewd looks. Even some of the men though most at least attempted to hide their gawking. Likely, it was because he was an Acadian and people had not seen one before. Either that or the sight of his bare chest.

Maybe both.

She knew he had a shirt or could afford to buy another, but since the battle with the ugar he seemed content to be shirtless. She joined her countrymen in ogling him for a moment, then sighed again. She'd enjoyed the view plenty of times before, but it was something which did not grow old.
