C L A R Y

From the moment I awoke, the only thing that I could distinguish was the darkness that surrounded me.

I brought myself up into a sitting position, leaning against the cold, damn stone wall, body trembling due to both the low temperature and the coldness.

My clothes were damp and my hair was wet, lips chattering slightly as the wet fabric only made the coldness cling to my body even more.

"Hello?" I called out, desperate for someone to hear me or even show their face, show me that I wasn't, in fact, alone in this horrible darkness.

I placed my arms on either side of my bump protectively, shutting my eyes for a split second as I tried to slow my breathing, hoping to calm myself down.

"We're going to be okay baby, it's all going to be alright." I whispered quietly, running a hand over my stomach as I let a few tears slip, pushing my damp hair back with my free hand.

I was about to pull my hand away in order to rid the collecting tears out of my eyes, but before I even had the chance to move, I felt the slightest press against the palm of my hand.

My breathing hitched as I stared down at my stomach in pure shock, heart racing as my eyes grew wide, hoping that I wasn't just imagining the latest occurrence.

"Do that again." I mumbled more so to myself, smile growing even wider as I felt a second yet stronger kick against the side of stomach, making me intake a sharp breath due to the shock, chuckling to myself whilst I continued to rub my hand over the spot.

"You sure did pick an unusual time to state your presence with your first kick, baby." I chuckled quietly, smiling to myself as I continued to experience the unexplainable feeling of a tiny human being moving around inside of me.

After a short while, a sudden idea came to mind. The darkness obviously wasn't going away anytime soon, so I'd simply have to find my way out of it by myself.

I got on my knees and carefully turned around, hands never leaving the cold, stone wall that I had been leaning against only moments ago.

I carefully began to stand up as I ran my hands along the wall, feeling my way left as I began to walk in that direction, finding a corner within a couple of short steps.

"One, two, three, four,.." I counted the amount of steps I took as I now began heading in the opposite direction, finding another corner at the exact same number of steps as to which I'd found the last one.

I repeated my actions once again, but found nothing along the third wall. The room was clearly a perfect square, not too big, but not too small either.

Once I'd finally moved onto the fourth wall, the pattern seemed to change ever so slightly. No less than two steps across, and the wall suddenly disappeared.

I furrowed my brow in confusion and took a couple of cautious steps towards the dip, and three steps forward, my hands came in contact with a metal handle.

I felt along the wooden door that wasn't very big at all, harshly pulling on the metal knob that simply wouldn't budge.
Of course it wouldn't open, I was a hostage in here, after all.

I sighed once again and quit trying, turning around as I bit my lip, tears welling up in my eyes as I thought about the danger that, not I would face whilst being trapped in here, but the one that my unborn daughter would.
