"She's suffocating in here, just get her out!" Clary cried, the never ending look of pain on her face making me feel worse and worse as time passed.
"I hate seeing you like this, it's killing me that I can't do anything or take away even the slightest amount of pain." I stated in frustration, bringing mine and Clary's clasped hands up to my mouth as I kissed her knuckles.
"I'm okay, really I am." She breathed out heavily, clutching onto the bed sheets with her free hand as Magnus encouraged her to push once again.
"You're a terrible liar." I chuckled, earning the slightest smile off of Clary in return, letting her head fall back against the pillow with an exhausted look in her eyes.
"Darling calm down, you've got two broken ribs, you can't keep pushing like this." Magnus ordered, holding his hand up whilst Clary's eyes widened ever so slightly.
"Two?" She exhaled, staring at Magnus with pained eyes whilst he nodded in agreement.
"That's good, I thought it might've been my spine." Clary chocked out after taking a breath out of the gas mouthpiece, causing me to shake my head whilst I smiled at her.
"Only you could joke around during a supernatural birth Clary, only you." Simon chuckled, lightening the mood as best as he could manage.
"I literally can't feel my insides, and that shouldn't be happening." Clary stated worriedly, crying out in pain seconds later after she'd spoken.
"It's just the anaesthetic spreading, calm down." Magnus spoke calmly, causing Clary's eyes to widen once again.
"Anaesthetic? For what?" She questioned worriedly, eyes barely open as she sobbed out in pain for what felt like the millionth time.
"We need to get her out now, before she rips your insides out herself. Whatever spell the ritual has been kicked off with is affecting the baby in ways I didn't even think were possible, I-" Magnus began to speak up, but Clary cut him off soon enough.
"Just do it. Do whatever you have to do until you get her out, even if I suffer the consequences." Clary cried, gripping onto my hand tighter than before whilst panic flooded through me at the sound of her words.
"You can do this Clary, just focus on your breathing, thats all you need to do." Isabelle stated, watching with wide eyes as Magnus gripped the scalpel in his right hand.
"Clary don't look." Magnus ordered, readying the blade whilst Simon stood by his side.
"Please distract me." Clary pleaded, grip on my hand growing stronger and stronger with every passing second.
"Just focus on me, look at me. Everything's going to be perfectly fine, and we're going to have our little baby here in no time." I soothed, positioning myself as close to Clary as I possibly could, allowing myself to pull her head into my chest.
"Is Sebastian-" Clary began to question, but I shushed her in return, running my thumb over the back of her hand reassuringly.
"You don't need too worry about that right now, all you need to do is focus on staying alive." I ordered, making sure that I kept Clary as close to me as possible whilst I tried to distract her.
"I can't watch this." Simon mumbled out as Clary heaved in pain, hands reaching up to rest at the back of his neck whilst he shook his head worriedly.
"Magnus just get her out." Clary sobbed hysterically, fisting my shirt with her free hand as Magnus concentrated on readying himself to cut through the skin.
"Clary, calm down, you need to breath." Isabelle ordered, inhaling and exhaling deeply as she encouraged Clary to repeat her actions.
"Now this is going to hurt a bit, so just bear with me." Magnus stated, the slight hint of nervousness in his voice making me worry all the more.
He pressed the blade against Clary's skin seconds after he'd finished speaking, carefully dragging it across in a precise line.
Clary's screams only grew more horrendous as the blade went deeper, the once white bed sheets turning a dark crimson red.
"Magnus stop, she's losing too much blood." I ordered sternly, watching as the plain hospital gown quickly became stained, making me panic over how much of her blood had spread in so little time.
"I'm almost done, it's nearly over Clary." Magnus answered in return, rubbing the clean back of his blood covered hand against his forehead before carrying on.
"Runes, she needs blood replacement runes now." Isabelle shouted, watching as Clary's screams began to die down, eyes lolling shut every once in a while.
"Clary stay with me, focus baby." I pleaded, brushing a strand of hair out of her eyes, fumbling for my stele as I did so.
"The runes aren't working, why the hell are they fading?" Isabelle questioned with a horrified expression plastered across her face, eyes focused on the disappearing blood replacement rune that she'd drawn on Clary's forearm seconds ago.
"It must be part of the ritual, I've got to get the baby out, Clary can't heal until I get her out." Magnus shouted, working furiously as the blood spread.
"I'm alright, just h-hurry." Clary spoke unevenly, grip on my hand faltering as she screwed her eyes shut in pain.
"Come on Clary you can do it, we know you can." Simon stated, staring at her with pleading eyes.
"It's alright, you're alright." I whispered to Clary, kissing the top of her head whilst I kept a firm grip on her upper body.
I watched Magnus with worried eyes as he concentrated on getting our baby out, and a couple of short minutes later, an ear piercing cry broke the silence.
"Here she is." Magnus spoke, gently lifting up the tiniest body I'd ever seen, gladly accepting the towels off of Simon after cutting the cord.
"She's beautiful." Clary breathed out, voice hoarse as Magnus carefully handed her the tiny bundle of blankets, smiling widely as he did so.
I watched with admiration as Clary carefully took our daughter into her arms, chapped lips forming the widest smile I'd ever seen.
"I..I don't feel too good." Clary mumbled quietly a few short minutes later, grip on the bundle of blankets that was soundlessly sleeping in her arms loosening ever so slightly.
"Easy there." Isabelle stated worriedly, quickly outstretching both her arms as Clary's grip dropped on the baby completely, eyes closing ever so slowly.
"This can't be happening." Simon spoke shaking his head as I repeatedly called Clary's name, desperate for some sort of response off of her.
"Runes, now." I ordered with worry clearly evident in my voice, quickly reaching for my stele once again as Isabelle carefully lifted up the baby.
"Shh its okay, mummy's going to be fine." Isabelle attempted to sooth my daughter, but between her teary eyes and the unsettled screams coming from the tiny baby, it wasn't exactly easy.
"Rune her, over and over again if you have to, we need to keep her alive." Magnus shouted, staring down at Clary's pale, blood covered frame.
"Don't leave me, you can't leave me." I begged, tears rolling down my cheeks as I pressed my stele against Clary's skin over and over again, hands shaking uncontrollably as I repeated the process, knowing that Clary's life depended on it.
