"Stay back or I'll shoot the girl," the man holding a gun to my head says to the police standing in front of us. I don't know whether it was the shock of seeing my mother die in front of me or the tears blurring my eyes, but the murderer that was holding me released me within seconds of a gunshot fire. A police officer ran to me trying to comfort me, but all I could think about was how my mother is now dead. I'm an orphan.
"Ms. Rose? Are you okay," my lawyer asks me snapping me out of my thoughts. I nod and roll my eyes. Seriously, this man has asked me that question ten gazillion times since I have seen him this morning. I'm a strong person. I can handle myself.
We were sitting in a room full of chairs, kind of like a meeting room. I'm sure many kids' lives were ruined here. You either go to a relative or you go into the foster system. Which is pretty terrible. I don't have any relatives I know of. My father lost his parents when he was 6 and my mother was an only child.
Some men in dark suits come in and sit in the seats right in front of us.
"Ms. Rose, we are very sorry about the event that happened earlier last week, but we have found a permanent home for you. There is an Alaric Saltzman in Mystic Falls, Virginia who is happy to take you in," the man in the middle of the whole group says. "Who is Alaric Saltzman? You're just letting me live with some stranger? I'm 17, in 6 months, I'm going to be 18. Can't I live by myself?" I say rolling my eyes.
"Alaric Saltzman happens to be your uncle. He says that he grew up with your mother, they were cousins. And no, you can't live alone. You can look at it this way, live with your uncle with 6 months and then you'll be free," he says. I sigh and nod. I can't really do anything about this now.
"Great, in about two hours, Mark right here will come pick you up. Grab the necessary things and pack them," he says pointing to the man next to him. I nod and get up.
My lawyer and I get in his car and start heading home.
Its funny how in barely an hour I lost my mother, my house, and my freedom of living by my own choice. Now, the government decides where I live. Alaric Saltzman, here I come.
