Maya Penelope Hart.
Just call her Maya. If anyone knew her middle name she would be furious. It just didn't fit her personality.
She wore chuck Taylor's ripped jeans and baseball tee shirts. Yea you could could say she was a tomboy because she was but honestly she just looked at it as comfortable and all she had. She lived with her father in a poor community in southern California.
Her and her father stuck around in the shack-like house once her mother died; and Maya hasn't been the same really ever since.
"No Rover!! Come back!" Maya yelled chasing the leash of her golden retriever ask he jetted off.
"Rover!" Maya yelled using her speed to keep up with her runaway dog.
The dog was running for blocks now and Maya was having a hard time keeping up now. She was getting really tired. The only distance she was used to running routinely was the bases.
Her dog finally slowed down once she arrived to a sandlot. She was taken back a bit at this little property so secluded yet felt like it had a sense of home.
"Can we help you? Yeah, yeah girl." A boy said from a corner she didn't notice before. It was the only corner with shade. There was more than just that one boy in the corner as well. She figured there was close to ten of them. They all had baseball gloves and pop in their hands.
"My-my dog ran away. He's fine now. I got 'em see?" She said nervously and grabbed Rover's collar and ruffled his fur.
"Great now you can get off our lot!" Another boy said with red hair and freckles.
"Well y'all got a big talk. Let me watch you play." Maya said a bit irritated by their cockiness.
The boys looked around at each other as if making a silent decision. This gave Maya to examine them a little bit longer and she noticed an older looking boy with a blue LA cap on and a white t-shirt.
Benny:
Benny couldn't help but notice the eyes on this girl. To Benny he has never seen any so blue. Benny thought he'd never seen hair that looked so good on a body before until he saw her. Man she was a kicker. The boys kept looking at each other wondering if they really should show this girl their stuff. They already knew Benny was in because he never refused a challenge.
But he also wanted to impress this girl. So they didn't know he was way more than in.
"Hey stop staring Benny! You little perv." DeNunez slapped the back of Benny's neck. Okay maybe they knew he was more than in, how could they not? They are the best friends in the whole world. They know anything.
Benny slapped him back because he feared she might have heard him say that.
"Base up guys." Benny said and slapped the inside of the glove with his hands to get the perfect crease.
"Smalls get left center." Benny directed Scotty.
"No over there! I said left center. We went over this last year." Benny rolled his eyes as he straddled the base ready for Ham to hit the DeNunez heater.
"You're gunna love this one blondie!" Ham said as he squared up. I eyed Ham with a death glare.
"The name's Maya! But I'm not sure if I even want my name touching your scab eating lips!" She growled.
"Ready Denunez give me the best you got." Ham said as Denunez wound up and pitched a strike. Maya chuckled and Ham's face heated up with anger as he squared up for pitch two. The pitcher wound up and met the bat with a clang!
"Aaaaaaaan it's outta here!" Ham said hitting the home run across the fence.
"Awe come on man!"
"Stupid!"
"Stupid!"
"Idiot!"
Everyone yelled at Ham as he ran the bases and hit him with their gloves.
"What?" Ham said annoyed.
"Now we can't play no more. It's only noon." Benny groaned at the lost ball.
Benny was also upset he wouldn't get to show the girl who was named Maya that he could actually play baseball too.
"Well, I have to get Rover home. Nice knowing yeah boys." Maya rolled her eyes and Rover started trotting off.
"You will come back tomorrow won't yea?" Benny asked her urgently.
All the boys stared at Benny with their mouths gaped open. This was the first time he ever invited a girl to the sandlot. This was the first time any one has invited a girl to the sandlot.
Maya paused then looked at Benny, "Uh yea sure." she said uncomfortably.
Benny digested what she said and a small smile formed on his lips and he watched her walk away as the boys started to feel like the world was coming to an end.
"Girls don't play ball!'
"You don't see my sister running around on the lot!"
"What is she even going to do here anyway?!" Squints took off his glasses and kicked the dirt up into the air.
"Benny take care of your hormomes on your own time!" Ham said and chugged down some pop.
"Nah guys! You don't know what your talking about. She didn't get to see us play because the homer cut the game short. Don't you want to prove yourselves." Benny tried to defend.
He decided it was best to just not say anything else to get him into more trouble so he sat in the makeshift dugout and drank some pop and ignored them.
Alright guys that is the first part! it probably sucks but yea thanks for even clicking on this lol.
