Part 32

Benny

Benny was at home resting in his room finally being ungrounded and his home phone was ringing off the hook. He didn't care.

The radio was playing the Yankee's game and he tried his best to ignore it right now. He wanted to ignore everything, he was really good at it.

Of course he was angry and hurt who wouldn't be? But at the same time he knew he had to let go.

One of his best friends had made out with his girl and he couldn't hurt Sma-Scotty. Scotty must've really liked her to do that knowing how Benny and Maya are.

"Benny you done being grounded. Go out son!" His dad called to him from the living room.

"Yeah, great timing." Benny huffed getting out of bed.

The phone rang again and Benny's father groaned.

"Answer the damn phone boy! I don't want to hear that thing go off again." He yelled.

"Ugh! I got it!" Benny spat back regretfully taking the phone off the wall.

"It's Benny, who is this?" Benny said.

'Benny! You finally picked up! You had us worried! We were about to walk on over. We had to call ya I mean that love stuff has everyone gone wild." Yeah, yeah said screaming in urgency.

"No, I am fine. That's nonsense to think other wise. What's the problem?" Benny said referring to the thousands of phone calls.

"Well! Maya been really upset. You know her better than all of us! Fix her.... she has been crying Benny." Ham said sincerely through the phone.

"You've never seen a girl cry before?!" Benny said trying to crack a smile.

"Benny... she don't want Smalls!" Ham rolled yelled and Benny knew he was rolling his eyes.

"Just stop! She can have a fresh start with him! I approve of him! She hasn't hurt him, so they can have a healthy relationship. We all know if we got together again that wouldn't be healthy." Benny said calmly through the line.

"You don't love her like she loved you then man. If you did you would get it." Yeah, yeah said then he heard the line end.

Benny felt his heart pounding so hard being told that infuriated him. He wanted to prove himself especially to Maya because he was not about to let her think that.

He raced over toward the bad neighborhood not even sure what he was going to say, he wasn't thinking right. He just wanted no one to believe that he didn't love her enough.

He paused deciding if he should ring the doorbell or just walk in but then he paused a bit too long. He started to overthink about him telling her how much he loved her. They would just get right back together, he doesn't want that. He needed to give Smalls a fair chance.

He still walked into the house noticing her sitting in her bedroom he entered.

"What are you doing here?" Maya said wiping her eyes.

"Nothing, you're my friend I came to see you." Benny said sitting on her bed giving her a sincere look of concern.

"I don't want to see you. You are the biggest jerk I have ever met." Maya said.

"Sorry, it's not that big of a deal. We can still be friends." Benny said holding back.

"How does any of this make sense to you?! ........ but if you want, I will date Smalls. I will do everything I did with you, with him. Only better." Maya spat wiping away more tears as she ignored Benny's eye contact.

Benny clenched his fists quickly before taking a deep breath.

"Do whatever you want. He deserves love too." He breathed out in a harsh whisper.

"I hate you Benny." Maya growled.

"How can you be like this? It's one thing to want the best for your friends but this is it in all the wrong reasons." She said.

"I am so over this. People need to stop talking about it." Benny said and swiftly walked out of her room and had a blank stare on his face.

He actually didn't have a clue about what he was doing but hoped it would end out being the right thing.

He didn't go home instead he went to the sandlot to hit and hopefully release a little stress all of this was causing him.

"Benny!" Squints aid waddling over after hopping out of his car.

"Squints." Benny said with less enthusiasm.

"So glad to see you hear I need some holy water! HELP ME MY EYES!" Squints said taking off his glasses and rubbing them furiously.

"Why? Why? What's wrong?" Benny said.

"Us and all of the guys went over to Maya's to tell her we finally talked to you on the phone!" Squints whaled and Benny got more curious and urged him to keep going.

"I was just there what did you see?!" Benny said loudly.

Squints face got bright red and his mouth shut.

"Never mind I shouldn't tell you. I can't." Squints looked away like he was about to explode.

"You just said all the guys saw! What happened is she okay?!" Benny said.

"Okay I guess I will tell you since you just saw her.... She's doing great I guess I don't know how she's doing exactlyyyyyyyy all I know is she was doing Smalls when we got there! Don'thurtmeIjusthadtotellyouwhathappenedsorrybennywethoughtshelovedyoutoo." Smalls frantically spoke.

"Get in your car." Benny said.

"Huh" Squints asked.

"We are going to Maya's again. Get in your car." Benny ordered.

They raced to Maya's house again and Benny went into her bedroom with blindfolded Squints following behind. He found Maya underneath Scotty who was going to town.

"Maya!" Benny yelled feeling his stomach tie in knots at the sight.

"I know you said you were going to do this but those are just words. You went and did it." Benny scolded as she scrambled to put on clothes.

"You don't care so why should I?" Maya growled.

"I don't know. But- you know how I feel!" Benny yelled.

"No I don't! Benny no one does jeez!" She said spilling over her pent up frustration.

"I love you! I fucking love you Maya! Jeez! I want you to be happy, but maybe I was wrong." Benny said cussing under his breath as he admitted it.

"So it took me going this far for you to say it? It's like you wanted me to do this, and if you did that's disgusting. Smal-Scotty is a good guy, but you were MY guy. I don't know if I can forgive you." Maya said and walked over to Scotty putting her arms around him as he gave her a pale smile standing in his underwear.

"Okay, I get it. I guess after everything that's happened today I just wanted to tell you I loved you incase people had doubts...." He said and watched Scotty look at Maya with a look of lust.

"Go back to him, it's your chance." Benny heard Scotty whisper to Maya glumly.

"No, I am done with him. He is too immature. Scotty... kiss me." Benny heard again as he watched Maya press her lips against Scotty's and he took her by the waist making their way back to the bed.

Benny stood there boiling as he knew she was doing this to spite him.  Maya moaned loudly and caught Benny's eye with an evil glance and Benny stormed out kicking over her desk chair and slamming her door before finding Squints eating a banana in the kitchen. He grabbed him and they made their way back to the sandlot for some practice.
