First Crush (Sandlot)

Part 30

"Hey did you tell him yet?" Yeah, yeah said as soon as Maya entered the school building.

"No, I just got here. I will talk to him soon." I said and it felt so weird since it's like I haven't talked to him in forever. I think it was even before we went to the pool. I can't even remember.

"Maya." Maya heard a voice that told her it was Scotty.

"No, Smalls just stay away from her for a little bit. I think it's best." Yeah, yeah angrily towards him.

"Yeah, yeah he is our friend. Nothing is going to change. Don't get mad at him." Maya defended.

"Actually Maya....can I talk to you in private?" He said as Yeah, yeah eyed him and DeNunez, Ham, Squints, and the rest of the guys including Benny were walking down the hallway.

"What? Okay." Maya said confused.

"Listen, I have been thinking a lot about what happened." Scotty said as Maya had flashbacks of him sweetly kissing her last night.

"And?" Maya said biting her lip nervously. All the guys were around them now and she just wanted Benny to not leave her.

Scotty looked around as if he wanted to drag her away to continue their conversation but it seemed like he was stuck in the middle of everybody.

"Maya like I said. I can't stop thinking about you. I know you have something with Benny. But don't forget you have that kiss with me. IT was more than a dare." Scotty said speaking fast and nervous.

"MAYA?! What is he saying? What is going on?" Benny said pushing past Ham and Squints.

"Nothing, I-" Maya stammered before Scotty interrupted.

"Maya what do you say?" Scotty said and licked his lips.

"Benny, Scotty kissed Maya at Abigail's party. It was steamy. I'm sorry buddy but I don't think Maya would have had the courage to tell you. You need to fix this." Yeah, yeah added as Maya shot him death glares.

"What do you mean?" Benny said looking at Maya with hurt in his hazel eyes. It killed her inside. She took off his blue LA cap nervously and toyed with it in her hands.

"I don't know, Benny. Please forgive me." Maya stammered.

"Maya, so you don't like me?" Scotty said taking her hand.

"Not like that. I-I, you are a great guy! I swear! But I love Benny." Maya said trying not to hurt anyone.

"Maya why did you kiss him?" Benny said still upset.

"It was a dare. It was a stupid dare." Maya said.

"Were you going to tell me? Yeah, yeah seems to think differently." Benny said.

"Of course I was!" Maya said sending another glare at Yeah, yeah.

"But the kiss." Scotty sighed still not letting go of his feelings.

"Smalls? That was my girl you kissed! How could you? There wasn't any other girl?!" Benny said drawing his attention to Scotty.

"Yeah there was, but I didn't wanna kiss them other girls. I couldn't control myself. She wants you Benny I should have known that. I am sorry." Scotty said hanging his head as DeNunez put an arm around his shoulder. That still didn't stop Benny from shooting him evil stares.

"Smalls, I was always there for you. No matter what. Why would you do that to me? Even if it was a little peck of a kiss! It still hurts." Benny said scratching the back of his neck and Maya got nudged by Yeah, yeah indicating it was her turn to speak up.

"Uh- Benny? A peck? Oh my gosh it wasn't a peck." Maya said scrunching up the blue cap and  shielding her face with it.

"What was it then. Show me." Benny said as he snapped and flared his nostrils and spoke in a monotone voice.

Maya was confused but she figured he was serious so she leaned in only to get rejected by Benny.

"I wasn't at the party. Smalls was. I need to see what really happened." He said again angrily.

"What? Benny no. That is stupid." Maya said in shock.

"I think we should. It makes sense. He doesn't know how it really happened. So no one can understand my feelings either. We should kiss one more time." Scotty said.

Maya was very confused and uncomfortable, she felt it would only hurt Benny more. But she had to come to terms with that this was the only way on how to tell the truth.

"Okay." She said and closed her eyes. It was only  second before her lips met Scotty's and she remembered his soft touch caring touch. Scotty seemed to be passionate about the kiss than the first time grabbing her waist and pulling her into him so Maya had to keep kissing him even though her boyfriend was watching. It just didn't feel right to her no matter how much she tried to convince herself.

"Okay enough." Benny said and Maya walked over to him expecting a hug but he backed away. Scotty noticed this and frowned.

"Benny don't do this man, she loves YOU. I don't care if I have feelings. She doesn't want me man." Scotty sighed.

"No, Smalls. I don't care. Maya we will always be friends." Benny said wiping his eyes that might have started tearing up before walking away down the hallway.

"No, I don't want to be just friends with him though. It's BENNY." Maya said starting to feel the beginning of heartbreak.

"Why wouldn't he try to work it out? Why did he leave so quickly." Maya continued talking to anyone who would listen.

'He didn't leave. He stepped back." Scotty said.

"Huh? Stepped back?" Maya said.

"He stepped back for me.... I told you. Friendship is his best quality. I am sorry Maya. I can try to knock some sense in him at practice. This is all my fault." Scotty sighed.

"I am so glad Wendy and I are going steady without a hitch." Squints blabbed resulting in a smack of the back of the head from Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, yeah came over to Maya and placed the wrinkled blue cap on her head.

"Don't worry." He said and Maya gave him a hug because she needed one from somebody.
