First Crush (Sandlot)

Part 25

Maya was seated at Chubby's in between Benny and DeNunez. She was eating a cheese burger while the boys chatted and she occasionally joined in like the good old days.

"You know if you stick a chili cheese fry in gravy it melts?" Yeah,yeah said.

"Really?! Waiter!! Side of gravy please!" Squints yelped swatting Ham's hand from finishing off the platter of chili cheese fries.

"I like dipping French fries in milkshakes." Maya said as they guys looked at her grossed out as she dunked a fry in her strawberry shake then plopping it in her mouth.

"Why are you guys so grossed out? Benny you licked the floor of a school bus and DeNunez you French kissed Rover after he sniffed some yorkie's butt at the park!" Maya said and everyone burst out laughing.

"Okay, okay. Milkshake fries aren't that bad when you put it that way." DeNunez surrendered.

"So what are we going to do tonight? We don't got practice and we've seen all the drive-ins at the movies. It's going to be another scorcher!" Squints said discussing their daily plans after school.

"Yea, we can't be cooped up in any of our homes! I mean we will melt." Yeah, yeah exaggerated.

"True."

"He's got a point."

"We will die. RIP Bertram."

"I'm gunna die then. I'm still grounded remember?" Benny sighed.

"I have an idea! Tonight, we sneak into the pool. Since pea-brain got us banned forever! WE gotta go at night." Ham whispered as they all turned to glare at Squints. This marked the beginning of yet another adventure with the sandlot crew.

"Well what am I going to do?! I'm grounded." Benny said again.

"Will I have to sit this one out?" He said and his face fell slightly.

"Awe come on Benny don't get yourself bummed. It's one trip to the pool." Bertram patted his back.

"Benny, you can't risk it. We already pushed it yesterday." Maya said seriously.

"No, I don't care what you guys say, I'm coming. We will meet at the sandlot at 8." He said frustrated slamming his glass of sprite on the table. Before getting up and walking back to school.

"Meet up at the sandlot? We haven't been there in ages." DeNunez said eating another handful of fries.

"It's always good to go back to your roots." Maya smiled confidently.

"Yeah that place is great and all but it also reminds me of how rag tag we are. We play high school ball now. WE have uniforms." Yeah, yeah cheered and put his baseball cap on with the school logo on it.

"Guys, the sandlot wasn't for rag tags. The sandlot was for family." Maya said looking at her burger not hungry anymore.

"Maya's right... okay let's do this. Sandlot at 8." Ham said and we all slapped our money on the table and grabbed our bag packs and headed back to school to finish out the day.

It was really hot so it was hard to focus plus the fact they had decided to break into the town's pool was also a reason to be fidgety obviously. All she could think about was her entire lunch at Chubby's and how she knew people were staring but the fact she had so many people around her that still cared about her made it feel like nothing. It was so easy, she regretted ever doubting going back to Benny. Before she was alone and let people get to her because it was obvious she was lost. Now nothing could bring her down and she could see that now. No matter how hard she knew she would never strike out with these guys. You can never strike out with true friends, the hardest part is learning to never let them go because you might not get them back. Lucky for Maya, she did.

Also as she was walking to her locker it was really hard for her not to tell Wyatt all about her life now but she had too. He was right next to her taking his gym clothes home acting like she didn't exist.

It was her fault that she was surrounded by such great friends during lunch and he ate alone with the Freshmen.

It was her fault he is hurt.

She couldn't blame him. But she also couldn't fix it anymore.

Maya just swallowed her pride and shut her locker quietly before walking the opposite direction going home for the night until it was time to meet up with her friends again.

Okay this chapter is really short but that's because I plan on the next chapter(s) being more developed etcc and longer this is like a filler but it was necessary and it's taking me longer now to update!! SORRRRRYYYYY
