First Crush (Sandlot)

Part 21

Maya

"Maya you have been acting different this whole week." Wyatt said responding to our conversation.

"Well, I have a lot on my plate. Homework and practicing." Maya said shoving books in her locker so she won't have to keep them at her house for the weekend.

"Homework makes you happy for no reason?" Wyatt said and looked at her like she had four heads.

"Oh no, I'm happy because it's uh my grandpas birthday." Maya said and tried to act happier.

"Okay? You aren't weird." Wyatt said chuckling.

"No, it's Maya. We don't talk to her anymore. Ask her." Ham scolded Squints who was trying to find someone to ask for tutoring help.

Wyatt saw Maya listening to their conversation.

"Yea what ever happened to the whole Benny thing? You guys made out and what? Stopped talking completely?" Wyatt said scratching his head.

Maya bit her lip feeling guilty about having to lie to him but she did anyway.

"Yea, he said it was a mistake." Maya said.

"Wow, what a jerk. I would never treat you like that, you are too great." Wyatt said and tried to comfort me but I didn't need it.

"Thanks. But I don't need a hug. I'm fine." Maya said but Wyatt thought she was in denial and kept his arms around her.

"No guy is going to use you again while I'm around." He declared and Maya just let him believe he was her hero.

"You bet." Maya said and laughed slightly .

"Get behind me! I will shield you from Benny. He is coming this way and is glaring this crap out of you. Man he hates you." Wyatt said comically then he started pulling her behind him.

Maya was shocked about what Wyatt said and peeled out of his grasp too see Benny looking angry glaring at Wyatt before catching Maya's eye and then he started to storm off the other way.

"That was weird." Wyatt said and handed Maya a lollipop out of his backpack.

"Thanks." Maya said and took the piece of candy.

"So what are we going to do this weekend. Park? Dinner?" Wyatt said as they walked out of the school doors.

Maya paused knowing Benny was going to be stopping by her house like he has everyday all week even if it was just to make-out.

"My grandpas birthday!" Maya fake cheered.

"All weekend?" Wyatt sighed.

"Yep, aaaaaaalllll weekend. He's turning 100." Maya said.

"Well I will be home if anything changes. Have a nice weekend." Wyatt said and walked over to his car.

*Later that night

"Hey Benny, I thought you weren't going to show." Maya said opening her window.

"Yea. Same." Benny rolled his eyes.

"What is that for?" Maya commented on his attitude.

"You and Wyatt huh? 'Oh Benny me and Wyatt aren't like that!' Yea well I saw you in school today." Benny mocked her.

"First of all, calm down you don't know anything. Second, it shouldn't matter even if it was real because when this first started you said you wouldn't get attached. Did you?" Maya said a little hopeful at the last sentence.

"You know how I feel. How many times do I have to say it?" Benny said.

"Then why are you mad?"

"Wyatt has with you what I want." Benny said.

"You have all of me. You have more than any other person on this earth." Maya said.

"Not really, your body isn't your heart. Every time we hook up it's great and I love you but it's not the same when you don't talk to me." Benny sighed.

"I know. Let's talk." Maya said and cracked a smile.

Benny's face lit up in a split second.

"Let's talk."

"We should probably stop being a secret. Then I won't have to keep lying to Wyatt." Maya said. She also wanted to say that she missed talking to Benny and playing baseball with him and now that she was so close to him she wanted to feel complete with him and start a real relationship.

"Okay." Benny smiled.

"That's great. I can give my body a rest from creeping into your window every night." Benny laughed.

"So you want to do this? Be official? Like come back to the boys and everything?" Benny smiled. Hopefully he would talk her into ditching Wyatt because he felt threatened by him  little.

"Possibly." Maya said and pecked Benny's lips.

"Oh you want to go again tonight?" Benny said grabbing her waist and pulling her into his torso.

"Nope, I'm tired. You know the way out." Maya said crawling into her bed.

"Oh, no. My first night here as your boyfriend. I get the cuddle privileges." Benny said jumping next to Maya and wrapping her in his arms and nuzzling against her as they started drifting off to sleep.
