First Crush (Sandlot)

Part 23

  Maya Hart

"Hey guys." Benny said still holding her hand.

"Hi. Guys." Smalls said. Maya smiled at all of them but they weren't amused.

"I thought you didn't hook up with her that day?" Smalls winked at Benny.

"Shut up man." Benny said.

"Anyway, truth us...we are dating again." Benny told them as their eyes widened.

"No really?" Squints said and smacked both of his cheeks sort of like that old painting of the ghost screaming.

"Rodriguez! I need you for a second!" His coach called after him. Benny looked at the guys and paused before turning around to meet his coach.

"Hi, again." Maya spoke after Benny left.

"How did this happen? You disappeared." DeNunez said.

Maya shrugged her shoulders, "I like him. We made a good team in the past. We all did."

"Yea, that summer with you was pretty fun." Ham reminisced.

"To be honest I'm glad you're back." Smalls piped up.

"Not sure what it took to get you back but maybe that's for Benny to say." Yeah, yeah smirked at the boys.

"Even though all of you are idiots, I think it's good to be back." Maya said and embraced them in a group hug.

"Yeah but what are you gunna do now? We don't have any baseballs to lodge over fences or beasts to scare you and talk about?" Squints said.

"I've got some extra money for soda pop and a car. I still go to the sandlot, I still see Mr. Mertle. I'm sure I have got plenty to do. Maybe I will start going to Chubby's too." Maya chuckled.

"This is why we need you." Smalls said.

"I'm back is everything all good?" Benny said looking specifically at Maya.

"Yep." Maya said and Benny smiled.

The bell rang and they all walked to class and Maya heard a little whispering but it wasn't horrible.

The classes were normal and at lunch Maya sat with the boys.

"You guys grew up a little and can handle PDA?" Maya joked as the school day was over and they were all walking into the parking lot.

"Shut up." They chorused.

Maya chuckled then turned to Benny to hug him goodbye.

 Benny

 "Go home."  Maya said and pecked his lips as Benny couldn't look at her. He hasn't been home since Friday and his dad was expecting him to be practicing for the finals.

"Baby I will. Going there now." Benny uttered not even registering he called her 'baby'. His cheeks heated up and to save himself the embarrassment he walked away into his car and drove home.

He took a deep breath and opened his front door and walking into the living room but no one was there. He sighed of relief and went into his bedroom and set down his bag.

"I thought I heard someone come home." His father said wiping off his oily hands. He must have been in the garage.

"Yea." Benny said.

"If you think you are such an adult and can live on you own I will let you. As long as I have you car keys. And make your own damn food. Adults can cook for themselves." His father said taking the keys out of the bowl next to his bed.

"Not my car! Please!" Benny groaned.

"You're grounded! Focus on baseball! If you even think about leaving this house God help me." His father huffed.

"You can't do that! It was one weekend." Benny said.

"Yea! I wanted to report you missing but I thought you'd have the decency to show up any second so I waited. Who do you take me for?!" He scolded.

"I'm sorry. But don't ground me and take my car. I'm begging you." Benny said.

"Why did you run away."

"I didn't run away! I was with Maya!" Benny said frustrated and angry.

"You were with some fucking stupid girl when you should be focusing on your future." His father said getting up in his face.

"You don't decide my future! Stop trying to control my life." Benny rolled his eyes and shoved him as he went out his bedroom door.

"Get back here! You are not running out of here again!" His father said grabbing his arm and yanking it then punching his gut making Benny curl up on the floor.

"Fuck! Ugh fuck you." Benny said wincing in pain. He felt sick and shuffled to the bathroom. Benny was never hit so hard in the stomach he started to gag and throw up in the bathroom.

As Benny was bent over the toilet trying not to throw up again he looked at the garbage can and saw beer cans filling the can and littered all over the floor.

Benny was still light headed but as sick as he felt he was more upset about being grounded and having his car taken away. 

He decided to take a cold shower then just shut himself in his room.

Benny woke up at 5am and threw on some clothes and winced as his abs were badly bruised. His dad wouldn't wake up until nine so he wouldn't notice him leaving early for school.

Benny had to walk so he needed extra time to walk to Maya's house and meet her.

"Maya, open up your window." Benny whispered knocking on the glass.

"Benny? What are you doing here? I will see you at school!" Maya said and she was only wearing a t-shirt and underwear.

"Nope. Get dressed and come outside and grab your car keys." Benny said.

"Okay wait in my driveway. I will be there in ten minutes." Maya said and Benny nodded making his way to the front yard.

Maya came out wearing a long sleeve t-shirt and jeans with some converses.

"Okay, why are you at my house in the crack of dawn? Didn't you go home?" Maya said concerned starting up her car.

"Yea, and I'm grounded with no car. So there is no way I'm getting to see you outside of school that's how I created this idea. We skip school today." Benny said grabbing Maya's hands hoping she would agree.

"I don't know. Let's go to the sandlot, my dad would never find us there." Benny suggested.

"Okay, should we go now? It's still dark outside." Maya questioned.

"Yea, we can just wait in the car until it gets light out so we can play catch or something. I just need to spend the most time I can. My dad is a real asshole." Benny grunted.

"We can't skip school everyday." Maya said.

"I know, that's why we are going to make today count and be super fun. I will find a way to get ungrounded. Plus we have school."Benny said and Maya parked the car at the sandlot.

"It's going to be about an hour until it gets light out, why did you wake me up so early?" Maya yawned.

"I needed to see you baby." Benny said and connected his lips with Maya.

Maya kissed him back and broke the kiss to crawl in the backseat and waited for Benny to join her.

Benny was on top of Maya kissing her softly as she played with his hair. Benny reached for her shirt and tugged at it before Maya took it off. Maya started kissing him harder and it got more intense.

Benny's mind started racing because this is the first time since they have been together.

"I got you." Benny said before pushing maya so she was laying completely down and kissed her neck repeatedly.

"I love you." Benny said genuinely like always as he pushed down on her hips.

"I love you too." Maya said for the first time.
