“I’m so sorry”, Nathan said as he held me and wiped away my tears.

“No, its okay”, I said. “You didn’t know.’

“Don’t mind me asking, but how long has it been since the party?”

“A year”, I replied. “I was seventeen at the time.”

“Olivia”, I heard Aiden yell as he ran into the room. “Oh…Olivia? What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”

            “It’s nothing Aiden”, I said.

“Are you thinking about Malcom, again?”

            “Yeah, Aiden. I am.”

“Well don’t, okay? I don’t like to see you cry.”

I smiled and said, “Okay, I’ll stop thinking about him, than.”

“Good”, Aiden said as he climbed onto my bed and sat down.

“You know, I have an idea”, Nathan said as he stood up.

            “What?”

“You’ll see”, he said as he walked out of the room. “I’ll be back in a minute for you and Aiden, too, if he wants to come.”

“I do”, Aiden exclaimed and I smiled and ruffled his hair.

“Where are we going”, I asked as Aiden and I climbed into Nathan’s car.

“Family day”, Nathan stated as he pulled out of my driveway.

I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion, but then I looked in the back and sawTrent looking at me with his big blue eyes. “But, we aren’t a family. I’m notTrent’s mom, either”, I said as I turned to Nathan.

            “Yet”, he replied.

“What’s that supposed to mean”, I said as I smirked at him.

“Nothing”, he chuckled. “Don’t worry about it.”

The Beach

I carried Trent and followed Nathan and Aiden to the sand.Trent babbled and pointed to the ocean. I sat down and Nathan sat beside me as Aiden began to play in the sand. I satTrent down in front of me and he started to dig his tiny fingers in the sand.

“Look, Levi”, Aiden said. “I found a seashell.”

“Oh cool”, I said. “Add it to your collection.’

“LookTrent”, Aiden said as he held the shell up to him. “A real seashell. It’s big, too. It’ll be the biggest one in my entire collection. I have 86 right now.”Trent smiled up at Aiden and reached for the shell.

“Hey, look,Trent”, Nathan said as he picked up something.

            “What is it”, I asked.

“This”, he said as he shoved his hand in my face.

“Gross”, I yelled when I realized that it was a caterpillar. Nathan laughed as he sat it on my arm.
