Chapter 9: Protecting Another

the smell of campfire smoke flooded my nose as I opened my eyes, but there was no fire and it was pitch black. I began searching around for a source of light or Kuran. As I got up I felt something grab my leg and I shrieked but then I heard a familiar laugh and my heart stopped beating as fast."KURAN!" I said angrily but before I knew it my mouth was covered by a warm hand and I was pulled into an embrace."shh, you don't wanna attract monsters do you?" My heart kept beating rapidly again as he slowly uncovered my mouth."sorry," I mutter as I sit down beside him."nah, it's fine....now get some more rest." I lay down next to Kuran and roll the opposite direction of him."aw, you don't wanna sleep with me?after all I've done for you?!" He says in a joking yet serious tone as my face turns as red as a tomato."s-sleep with you?! W-why would I-" Kuran sighs and scoots away"fine, you don't have to...i-it's just cold out so, I was worried" I realized that I'm shivering just then, and I blindly search for Kuran in the dark. Once I reach him I feel his skin and he's freezing!"I'm sorry." I say worriedly as I wrap Kuran in a warm embrace", I couldn't tell how cold it really was." It was really warm now that we're so close and I couldn't help but fall asleep."hey, Luna." Someone was shaking me gently."hey, Luna we have places to go,get up!" My eyes open to Kurans face and for once, I just starred at him calmly taking in his mystical features."he has different colored eyes, I hadn't noticed that before. Maybe I was just too nervous." I thought this as I stared at him in awe for awhile,still half asleep." Oh, good you woke up. I was afraid I'd have to carry you. He smiled and my eyes widened realizing that smile was as bright as the one I had seen on my mothers face and A tear fled from my eyes." Wha- why are you crying?!" Was it something I did?! I'm sorry about last night, I didn't mean to make you sad!!" He started panicking and was obviously worried about me as I wipe away that tear and the memories that were trying to flood back to me and smile at him." Your gonna make your pretty hair turn gray if you keep worrying like that" as his eyes widen and he blushes, I realize I just said that aloud and blush too."I-m okay...stupid." I thought adding "stupid" would make sure he didn't get the wrong idea but, he continued blushing standing there frozen. After gathering my things I walk up to him and grab his hand snapping him out of the daze."cmon, we already wasted enough time." He nods still blushing slightly and pulls his hand away as we walk."I-I'm not a child" he restates what I said last time and makes me angry."whatever. Let's just get going before I end up smacking you." I hold back my anger and laugh it off, "it's not like he's an enemy...to be honest, I think I found something else I wanna protect." I smile as we walk off to Rokkira teasing each other on the way.
