*Chapter 15*

Avie was rushed to a hospital. I waited in the waiting room for any news.

Mike waited with police to make sure her parents were arrested. Macy and her brother, Matt, arrived the same time the ambulance did.

Soon enough a nurse walked into the empty waiting room.

"Avery Summers?" the nurse asked me.

I nod and get up walking to her. "Are you family??"

"Friend. Her parents beat her. How is she??" I asked.

"Ah, okay. Avery us going to be okay. She's been having trouble breathing, so we have her on oxygen. But what worries us is that there were cuts on her arms, and theses are a bit recent, and she is very malnourished," the nurse said worriedly.

Oh no.....

"Can I see her?" I asked.

"I can make the exception this time, since we only allow family. You can go in, but you must be quiet, since she's sleeping," she said.

I nod and follow her to Avie's room.

As soon as I walked in, my eyes widen in horror.

She was breathing from an oxygen mask, and was covered in bandages. And... Dear god, how did I never notice she was THAT thin?!?!

I approach her bed and gently stroke her hair.

"I'm afraid to say, but we suggest moving her to Suicide Watch," the nurse said.

"Why?!" I asked.

"We estimate the cuts are as recent as yesterday at the least. And she lost 10 pounds since her last visit. According to records, that was only almost 4 weeks ago," she said.

10 pounds!?!? In 4 weeks?!?!

I look back at Avie, who still slept peacefully.

"Its your choice, considering that her parents are at fault here. I believe its for the best," she said.

I can't risk her getting hurt, but the last thing I want is for her to get any more hurt than she already is.

"Alright, but let me at least stay with her. She could get scared when she wakes up," I said

"Of course," she said, taking out her walkie talkie and walking outside.

Not long after she left, Vic and Macy walked in, followed by Mike, Jaime, and who I assumed is Matt.

"Oh god," Jaime said as soon as they all say Avie.

"Is she going to be okay??" Vic asked.

"Yeah, but she'll have to spend a bit in Suicide Watch. Her cuts were pretty recent," i explained.

"She must have cut behind our backs," Macy said.

"Dammit," Matt muttered. "I should have watched her closely."

"This isn't your fault, dude," Mike said.

"What did the police find??" I asked.

"Her fosters never showed up. They're being tracked. I did see a bruised dog run towards the house, but then ran off," Mike said."Thinking it lives there."

"Avie mentioned a Rocky, so I'm guessing that was him," I said.

It wasn't long until two nurses walked in, made some checks and then moves Avie to her room in Suicide Watch.

She was thankfully breathing on her own, but still needed the IV needles.

Once she was settled in, we waited for her to wake up.

I couldn't stop thinking about what happened. She doesn't deserve this. She is worth it. I want her to see that.

It wasn't long until I hear a small murmur.

I look and see Avie's hand moving a bit and her eyelids also moving.

She was waking up.
