Didn't know the cost,
until all was lost.
Corrupted by the greed,
having more than I need.
Built up an empire,
raising stone walls higher,
letting no one in,
consumed by my sin.
A slave living as a king,
a puppet tied to a string.
Bound to the things of earth,
that no longer hold worth.
I tried to fill a hole,
but it grew in my soul.
Possessions I couldn't share,
my loved ones no longer there.
How could it be,
I didn't see,
the price I did pay?
others I forced away.
Spots for them yet I'm all alone,
filling it with all that I own.
My possessions,
my obsessions.
