PROLOUGE
I woke up from my nap at 5 o’clock, so I could shower and be ready to leave by 6:30. My alarm quietly went off and I jumped up. I’ve been waiting all week for tonight and nothing is going to ruin it.
I walked to my dresser to turn on my small lamp and cursed to myself when it didn’t flash on. I wouldn’t mind turning on my overhead light if it wasn’t so bright. I squinted my eyes and hit the switch up. My slightly dark room was quickly filled with light.
I made my way to my closet to pick out a good outfit for tonight. I got distracted when I saw my across-the-street neighbor, Calum, walking to his car to get something, then walking back inside.
Calum and I don’t necessarily get along. We’ve had all 4 years of high school together, and we’ve never actually spoken, but it’s obvious we’d much rather be apart than together. I’m not too sure why he hates me, but I sure as hell know why I don’t like him.
Calum is your typical high-school senior, always partying, getting drunk, doing drugs, skipping school, having sex, getting bad grades, and so much more. Now I’m not perfect when it comes to school, I’ve skipped a few times, I’ve failed some classes, I get bad grades, but I’m nothing compared to Calum. Sure, I’ll go to parties and maybe get slightly buzzed, but Calum? He won’t stop till he can’t even remember his own name.
But that’s not the only thing, Calum takes advantage of girls way too much. He leads a girl on, maybe even has sex with her, then doesn’t speak to her again. It’s his sick little game and too many girls have been players. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t like me, because he finally met a girl who won’t play his damn game.
Calum sure is attractive, he might be one of the cutest guys I’ve ever seen, but his personality throws all of it off. I push Calum to the back of my mind and my eyes dart to the clock, thinking so much time as passed I’m late. 5:10. I decide to not take a shower, so I can be out of the house by 6. I mean I did take a shower yesterday, I should be okay.
I turn on my curling wand so it can heat while I make the rest of myself look at least a little decent. I don’t normally wear makeup, but I decide to apply some eyeliner and mascara. I grab a pair of light-jean skinny jeans and slip them on with a tight black t-shirt and some black vans.
I finally begin adding some loose curls to my straight hair. I don’t like when my hair is actually curled, so I just make it look wavy, and it actually doesn’t look that bad. When I’m done I look at the clock at it’s 5:50. What the hell? How did it take that long to do a couple of things? Oh well, now I can finally leave.
I walk down the driveway to my car and look across the street to see Calum get in his car. His parents can be seen through the screen door of his house. His mom is laughing and his dad is talking to her. His family seems so loving yet he’s filled with so much hatred, it doesn’t make any sense.
When I get in my car I turn on the heat and begin warming up, I love when it’s cold but I hate that it gets -98 degrees where I live. Not literally, obviously.
The only thing that got me through the day was knowing my friend, Ashton, is throwing yet another party tonight, and I decided to go. I haven’t been to a party in about month after the last one I went to got busted by the cops, but luckily it wasn’t Ashton’s party, It was another seniors named Kevin.
Ashton is one of the 3 guys Calum actually talks to, along with a boy named Luke, and another named Michael. They’re like their own little gang, but Calum is the worst out of them all.
Ashton is the one who throws most parties, probably because he has his own place. He got held back last year, so he’s a senior again. It’s obvious he’s trying hard to not fail again, but that doesn’t stop him from partying. I have first period with him, and he sits right by me. We’re always copying each other and making fun of our too-strict-old-as-fuck teacher. He’s a good guy, extremely funny, good listener, very attractive, and it makes me happy to see how hard he’s trying this year in school. I’m proud of him, actually.
