Calums eyes dart to mine, instantly pulling me to him and getting on the ground. Ashton is lowering himself by us, trying his hardest to stay calm. Calum is sitting against a rack of chips with me in between his legs, clinging close to his chest. I don't even realize I'm crying till Calum tells me to calm down.
"It's gonna be okay. We're gonna be okay." He whispers while rubbing my back. At this point I'm shaking uncontrollably.
Ashton pulls his phone out, I watch as he dials 9-1-1 and puts the phone to his ear. Luckily everyone else around us is still freaking out, causing enough noise for the him to explain to the police where we are and what's happening before hanging up. He quickly shoves the phone back in his pocket, scooting over to sit next to Calum.
A tiny whine escapes the mouth of a tiny baby, visible from where I'm sitting.
"Shut that baby up!" The, I'm assuming, shooter screams. The mother of the baby cries out, holding her baby close to her while rocking back and forth. My heart aches for her, I would rather I die than an innocent baby who has it's whole life ahead of it.
The shooter walks over to the mother. I can't see his face, it's covered by a dark hood and longish brown hair. He's tall, way taller than me. Maybe even slightly taller than Calum. I watch as he points the gun at her, I again begin shaking and crying.
"I said shut that stupid baby up!" He screams again. She holds the baby to her chest, sheilding it from being harmed. "If you don't shut it up I'll fucking kill you!" He screams louder than the first time.
I look up at Calum, he's watching the same scene I am. He turns to look at me and gives me a frown. He knows about how my father died, so I know he's aware of how scary this is to me, how scary it is to everyone. He kisses my forehead, attempting to calm me down, before pulling me tighter to him.
"We're gonna be okay." He repeats in my ear while rubbing my arm.
Luckily the shooter leaves the mother and the baby. Hopefully he doesn't have the guts to actually kill anyone in here. He walks over to the register, the guy behind the counter quickly shoving money into a bag. Soon enough police sirens blare outside. The shooter lets out the loudest grunt I've ever heard.
"Who called the fucking cops!?" He shouts.
I grip onto Calums shirt, hiding my face in his chest to quiet my cries a little. What if he finds out it was Ashton and he kills him?
"If the cops come in here I'm killing all of you!" He continues to scream.
The phone in the store begins to ring, I can only assume it's the negotiator. Before I can think the loud ring blares through my ears again. I quickly pull my head from Calum's chest to see the gun pointed at the phone. He only shot the phone, he didn't shoot anyone. I let out a sigh of releif and rest my head on Calums chest again, waiting for this nightmare to be over.
I hear the cops shaking the doors of the store. The shooter runs to the back, frantically looking around like he's searching for someone. His eyes lock on mine, and I swear my heart stops beating. He points the gun directly at me before speaking.
"You! Get up, come here." He instructs.
I begin to get up before Calum pulls me back down.
"She's not going anywhere!" He screams back.
