Chapter 1
Calum hardly even notices the girls practically swooning over him. I know if I was a guy I'd totally be aware of all the female attention I was getting, but he's completely oblivious to it. Calum turns his body so his back is now on the wall, his arm nearly touching mine.
"I haven't seen you at parties in a while. What's your name again? Tina right?" His voice is deep and raspy. He sounds like he just got out of bed.
I roll my eyes at his stupidity. "My name is Tori, and I know you know that. We have 2 classes together."
"Is Tori short for something?" I look up at him and he smiles, "Or is your name just Tori?"
"It's short for Victoria, but don't call me that, I swear I will kill you."
He laughs and puts his arm above my head.
"Why not? You look more like a Victoria than a Tori." He laughs.
"Because it's just weird. I've always been called Tori." I say and finally smile back at him. He went from a cocky asshole to a guy I can actually have a conversation with really fast. I turn my head slightly and see the same girl I saw staring at me 10 minutes ago still staring, but this time she's giving me a look like she's trying to say "you're a whore." What's her damn problem? Why does everyone expect that if a girl talks to Calum she's instantly going to have sex with him?
Oh yeah.
Cause they do.
But I'm not like those girls, I know how Calum is. He hasn't always been this huge arrogant douche bag. He used to somewhat have feelings. If I can remember correctly, he had a girlriend in 9th grade and they stayed together for a couple of months, all throughout summer too. When he returned sophomore year they had broken up but he was still nice, then slowly he became worse. It's like he grew emotionless, and people just let it happen.
I'm completely aware of how Calum treats girls, that's why I'm careful. I hate guys like Calum. They're all awful. My old best friend, Skylar, had a boyfriend named Kyle from the beginning of 10th grade to the end of 12th. He treated her absolutely awful. He cheated more times than I can count, he'd go weeks without talking to her, I'd even seen him hit her. I've never seen Calum hit a girl, but he's still exactly like Kyle. They both act like they're top-dog and girls are just their chew toys, and it's actually disgusting.
Calum offers me another sip from his beer and I reject. He shrugs and takes the last sip then crushes the can and throws it onto a nearby bookcase. I see Luke walking up to us and I let out a sigh of relief. Being alone with Calum is just awkward.
"Hey Tori! Finally I see you at a party!" Luke slurs and I giggle. It's clear he's already intoxicatted.
"Yeah well here I am." I smile and he throws his arm around my shoulder. Calum shoots Luke a glare and I feel my cheeks flush. Am I making Calum, the most popular guy in school, jealous by just talking to Luke?
"Hey lets go get another drink!" Luke screams in my ear. I flinch at his loud tone and quickly recover. I nod and give a tiny wave to Calum. I turn on my heel with Luke's arm still around me and begin to walk away. There's so many people in the dining room it's nearly impossible to make it to the cooler on the other side of the room.
Luke pushs me behind him and tells me to get a grip of his hood so I don't get lost in this damn sea of people. I do as I'm told and watch as Luke shoves his way through people. Before I know it we're finally by the cooler and I can get my own drink. Calum sharing some of his with me was very nice, but it felt weird. Like I told him myself, we've never had an actual conversation before tonight and he's already offering me drinks. I'm glad he didn't try anything with me though, but I'm sure if I stayed by him for any longer he would have. I feel a little guilty for just leaving in the middle of our conversation, but the sooner I got out, the better.
