Even though I had gotten familiar with some of the routes, like the way to school, the riverbank, the nearby market and then back home from there in this new city, I was still unfamiliar with the majority of the place. Which is why, I should have thought twice when I decided that I could take a walk to the next neighborhood and get back home without any help.
I was so lost in my thoughts, breathing in, the fresh air and admiring the calm atmosphere that I forgot the way I came from. When I felt I had come too far decided that it was enough for the day and turned around to return, I couldn't figure which alley to go to. It all looked like a maze to me with streets branching out to several smaller ones like an endless net of concrete. I started to panic since there was no one around that early in the morning who could help me. I had left my phone at home too, forgetful that I am.
Being left with no other choice, I decided to pick a street at random and start walking through it and hoping I get to the main road. I picked the one that looked most familiar to me and started walking straight ahead, taking no note of the various branches of it on either side. After a while, the street took a turn and following it, I did too and all of a sudden found you on the other side, walking towards me.
You spotted me immediately since the street was deserted except the two of us. You noticed the distressed expression on my face gone pale with anxiety and ran up to me without wasting any time.
"Hey, what's wrong?" You asked softly with concern filled voice.
"I...kind of...got lost." I looked down with embarrassment.
"What are you even doing here?" You asked again.
"I wanted to take a walk." I kept looking down, "And what are you doing here?"
"Same reason as you except I know where I am going." You chuckled. I frowned at you with a pouty face.
"Don't sulk now and come with me. I can get you home." You smiled.
"Thanks." I mumbled almost noiselessly but I was really thankful that you showed up right when I needed someone the most. I didn't even want to think what would I have done if you hadn't come to the rescue. As I walked beside you, feeling safe and relieved, I mentally made a note to myself to never go on adventures like these anymore.
