Chapter 14 - Pushed away

*HALEY'S POV*

2 weeks. It's been a whole 2 weeks and I haven't heard from Dylan at all. I've texted him and called him but after a while I just gave up. I told him that we need to complete the assignment and that we would fail if he didn't come out of hiding, but I dont think he cares about the grade anyway. I just need to talk to him.

Walking down the school corridors towards the cafeteria, I push the doors open and wave at my friends. I point to the line of people and head over to get my food.

I set my tray down on the table.

"Hey Haley"

"Hey Katie"

"So have you heard from him?" she asks and I shake my head. I've told Katie about the situation. About everything that went on that day Dylan said he didn't want to see me again.

"That sucks"

"Tell me about it"

Soon, Ben and Maya take a seat at the table, followed by Caroline, Jasmine and a guy called Hamish. They begin talking and I zone out, my eyes scan the room for Dylan and when I find him, he's sitting at a table, envy to that same girl with the piercings. I feel a pang of jealousy overcome me. He's been ignoring me for two weeks but he talks to her!

He looks up and his eyes meet mine for a second but he looks away quickly. I sigh and excuse myself.

"I'm just gonna go to the bathroom"

"Do you want me to come with you?" Katie asks and I shake my head

"Thanks though" I begin walking towards the bathrooms and run my fingers through my hair, frustratedly.

I push the bathroom doors open and step in front of the mirror. Sighing, I look in the mirror and groan.

"What's got you in such a bad mood?" The girl Dylan was sitting with asks as she washes her hands.

"That's none of your business" I snap, I can't help the jealousy that returns when I see her

"There's no need to be snappy, just curious" she shrugs and I groan again

"So what is it? pet died? Guys?" she asks

"Guys" I have no idea why I'm telling her this.

"One guy in particular" I add

"What's his name?"

"Connor" I lie, there's no way I'm telling her it's Dylan.

"And what did this so-called Connor do to piss you off so much?" she asks

"We were fine, everything was good, he was being really nice and then all of a sudden he told me to leave him alone, he said that it's easier that way"

"It doesn't sound like he's being very clear. I think you should talk to him"

"It's not that easy"

"Yes it is, find this Connor and ask him straight up why you need to stay away" she walks out of the toilets after yelling a quick "good luck!"

I have no idea why I just shared that with a stranger. But not just any stranger, the stranger that was being quite hands-on with Dylan. So maybe I was over exaggerating and they had simple hugged but still. It hurt.

I grabbed my books from my locker and shoved them into my bag. I decided that tomorrow I was going to try and talk to Dylan. I shut my locker door and locked it, walking down the hall, phone in hand as I texted Maya asking if she was getting a lift with Ben or not.

From Maya: Yeah, sorry I didn't tell you! I'll be walking tomorrow, promise :)

To Maya: No problem, see you tomorrow :) x

I turn the corner and bump into something or rather someone quite hard.

"Sorry" I mumble looking up I see a familiar face

"Sorry Haley, here let me help you" my friend Carter bends down and picks up my book, handing it to me with a smile

"Thanks" I smile

"No problem" I nod

"Well, I better be going, I need to get home"

"Oh right, how are you getting home? if you don't mind me asking?"

"It's fine, I'm walking actually"

"Oh, well it's raining outside, I don't think it's very good weather to be walking, I can give you a ride if you want?"

"Oh, if it's not too much trouble?" I ask

"Not at all, I'm heading to my car now actually" he smiles and we walk down the halls to his car.

I sit in the passenger's seat and stare out the window.

"So how's school been?" he asks

"It's been good actually"

"That's good"

"Yeah"

"How's basketball going?" I ask

"Improving, I've been working one on one with coach and he says I'm doing well"

"Actually, I have a game this Friday" he says

"Sounds great, I'm sure you're really good at it"

"Thanks, actually you could come this Friday, I mean, if you want to..."

"That would be cool, what time and where?"

He smiles "5:30 at the gym, it's a home game"

"I'll be there" I smile.

The rest of the way we talk and laugh. Carter is quite funny and really sweet. He turns on the radio and hums along to The monster by eminem ft. Rihanna

We pull up in my driveway and I turn and face Dylan.

"Thanks for the ride, I'll see you on Friday" I smile

"Yeah, can't wait'' he smiled back and I grasp the handle of the door, pushing if open with a click as I push myself out of the car

"Bye Carter!" I wave and open my front door.
