Chapter 28 - Melody?
"You wanna go to another one of my basketball games?" Carter asks, leaning against my locker as I put my books into my bag.
"Sure" I nod, a small smile on my lips.
"Alright, well, I'll pick you up at 5 tonight, sorry for the late notice"
"No problem" I smile, he leans in, kissing me on the cheek before smiling and saying, "I'll see you tonight" the blush on my cheek was evident, even after Dylan approached me
"How'd the last test go?" he asks, grabbing my bag for me, "It went well, I feel good about it, thanks" I smile widely, for him carrying my bag and for motivating me when I doubted myself.
"Don't mention it"
"No, I really appreciate it" I tell him as we walk towards the front doors of school
"You need a ride?" he asks, his head signalling to his car parked in the corner
"Er, sure. Is that alright?"
"We've been through this before, if I asked I wouldn't mind" he rolls his eyes, opening up the back door and putting my bag in, he looks up, by this time I've already opened the door so he gets in himself.
"You're meant to let me open your door for you" he says, sticking the key in the ignition.
"Sorry" I laugh "I'll remember to let you open it next time", he grins widely at me and drives out of the parking lot.
Dylan starts the car and we leave the school car park behind.
"So what're you doing these holidays?" I ask, my attention turning from the park outside to Dylan's face.
"Probably just spending time with family and shit, you?"
"I think my cousins are visiting from Canada"
"That's cool"
"Yeah, it's been a while"
I haven't seen Tilly and John in ages and I've missed them a lot. Tilly's girly squeals and giggles over boy bands and teen heart throbs, despite the fact that she's the same age as me, Tilly and I are completely different. She's into boy bands and lots of shopping and soccer players, now I'm not saying that I don't like all of those things but my liking towards them doesn't go to the extent Tilly's does. Tilly has long blonde hair that reaches just up to her hips, she has hazel eyes, like Aunty sue and if you even look close enough you can see the small freckles that line the bridge of her nose.
John is Tilly's older brother, he's 23 and has brown hair that rests flat on his forehead. He he has a strong build and has big blue eyes, that are usually used for attracting female attention. Cue the eye roll.
"Is that a dog?" Dylan points in front of him, something laying on the side of the road, drenched from the rain that has started to come down heavily.
"Oh, shit I think it is" he stops the car on the side of the road, quickly getting out. I follow closely behind, stepping to the right when Dylan crouches down in front of it. I'm surprised and relieved to see it unharmed and internally "aww" when Dylan and scoops it up
in his arms
I stroke the dog, smiling, "She's so cute!" I exclaim, scratching behind it's ears. Dylan nods with a grin
"What the hell are we gonna do with you?" he turns to the dog, looking to the side while he strokes his chin, deep in thought.
"You can keep her.." I trail off, treading carefully
"No way, mum would kill me, I don't have a place to keep it" he shakes his head
"Well, let's get inside because I'm getting soaked and then we'll see what we can do" I walk towards the car, Dylan hot on my heels until I climb into the car, shutting the door quickly before more small raindrops are let inside.
"Now" Dylan says, closing the car door with the puppy still in his arms.
"Haley, would you be able to grab the old towel from the back? I dont even know why it's in here but whatever" Dylan nods to the old, dark blue towel on the backseat
"Sure" I climb into the console, leaning forward and gripping the towel between my fingers. I hand it back to Dylan, sinking in to my seat as the rain continues. I watch intently as he gently wraps the towel around the dog.
"You could keep it at your house!" Dylan says after a moment of silence, looking more than pleased with himself.
"I don't think so, incase you haven't realised I already have a dog"
"One more won't hurt" Dylan grins eagerly
"You're crazy" I laugh lightly, maybe I could keep it?
"Well, my birthday is coming up. I'll just tell mum and dad it's my present to myself"
"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard but if it means you can keep this adorable fluff ball then I'm cool with it" Dylan laughs
"Well, if I'm going to keep it, it needs a name" I smirk, stroking my chin.
"Jasper?" I ask Dylan
"No"
"Spot"
"That's so cliché for a dog" I say, shaking my head at Dylan's suggestion
"Wait, is it a girl or boy?" I ask, looking over at the dog lying in Dylan's lap.
"I dont know, check" he lifts it up, putting it onto my lap, "she's a girl"
"Wait.. what's that?" Dylan asks, pointed at her back, I look down, a white spot that stands out on the black fur is placed just before her back legs, resembling a musical note.
"Well, I have two ideas" I say, looking over at Dylan who is smirking
"Shoot"
"Well first there's harmony and then there's Melody. which one?"
"I think Melody has a better ring to it" Dylan nods after thinking for a few seconds
"Melody it is then" I nod, a smile plays on my lips as I look down at my new dog that lays wagging her tail at me.
