Chapter 17 - Distracted

*HALEY'S POV*

I walk through the school buildings, humming along to the music playing rather loudly through my headphones.

Turning the corner, I bump into something or rather someone and apologise

"I'm really sorry-"

"Hey, don't worry about it" I look up and smile

"Jasmine! how was your holiday?" I ask excitedly hugging her

"It was good, I had a great time actually"

"That's good, so fill me in on everything"

"Well" she starts as we walk down the halls together

"I got to do some amazing things, but I did miss you guys a lot"

"You mean like Paddy?" I smirk

"Yeah
, I missed him"

"I bet you did, you guys are like the cutest couple in school" I exclaim happily

"Talking about me?" Paddy comes up from behind and wraps his arms around Jasmines waist,
Resting his head on her shoulder
"Only good things" she turns her head and pecks his lips

"Well, I'll leave you guys to it, I've got History now" I sigh in defeat and wave goodbye before continuing my walk down the hall

"We have more to talk about by the way!" I shout to Jasmine and send her a wink before heading into my classroom.

"Have a seat, miss Michelle" my teacher says and I nod

I scan the room. Carter is seated in the middle of the classroom with an empty seat beside him, he looks up and smiles at me, beckoning me over to him. I return the smile and take the seat.

"Hey" he whispers

"Hey" I whisper back

I don't think I realised Carter was in my History class, I guess I was preoccupied with Dylan's company. Dylan. Where is he? I haven't seen him for a few days.

The teacher begins her lesson and I find myself dosing off. Taking interest in the surroundings outside the window.

"Isn't that right, miss Michelle?" my teacher attempts to get my attention back to her lesson

"Uh-h yeah..?"

"Please pay attention next time" she says sternly and I nod the teacher continues talking about The renaissance as I try my best to pay attention.

"Sorry I'm late miss" the classes attention turns to the boy at the door who happens to be Dylan

"do you have a note mr. Jones?" she asks

"Nah, sorry" his apology is not sincere and he doesn't seem to make an attempt to hide it.

"Sit down and be quiet then" she sighs

Dylan walks down along the seats his eyes meet mine for a brief moment before flickering to Carter who is beside me, Dylan's jaw clenches and he moves to the back of the class. He has no right to be angry at me. I haven't done anything wrong, if anything I should be mad at him for pushing me away.

I glance back at him, he's sitting alone. Scribbling in his book, probably wanting this to end as soon as possible.

"So he's in your history class?"

"Yeah"

"What's his name?" Maya asks

"Carter, he's really nice"

"Oh, Carter, he's in my physics class, he's cute" she speaks into the receiver of my phone

"He asked me out again" I say

"Did you say yes?"

"I told him I could, yeah"

"Good, you really need to get out more!"

"I know, I know"

I hear mumbling in the background followed by some cries.

"Oh shit" Maya mutters

"What?"

"Alison just fell over, I got to go, talk soon, bye"

(A/N Maya is still visiting her cousins, she's babysitting her little cousin Alison)

"Bye"

"Jake!" I shout from the bottom of the stairs

"Yeah!" he calls back

I walks up the stairs to Jakes room, pushing the door open slightly and sticking my head in, I notice he's got a hoodie on and his phone and keys are in his hand

"Are you going somewhere?" I ask

"I was just gonna head over to Katie's place for a bit, will you be okay here by yourself for a few hours?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure. Tell her I said hi"

He smiles and nods "Will do sis"

"Bye Jake" I move from the door and give him a hug before pushing him towards the stairs.

"I'll see you in a few hours"
