Chapter 21 - Welcome home

*HALEY'S POV*

"Stacey!" I exclaim as she gets out of the car and runs over to me, jumping into my arms. I lift her up and hug her tight. I've missed this little rascal

"Haley!" she yells back, smiling, I readjust her in my arms and Jake comes outside. His hair wet from the shower I assume he just took.

Stacey wriggles in my arms and I put her down so she can greet our brother.

"Jake!" she says, jumping into his open arms and snuggling into his neck.

"Hey Stace!" he says, smiling widely

"Miss me?" he asks her and she nods vigorously

"Aw, I missed you too" he hugs her again and smiles as I go over and hug mum and dad.

"Hey, how is grandma?" I ask my mum as we hug

"She's alright, for her sickness, but, she's getting worse gradually" mum says, I can see she's trying to be strong for me and for Jake and Stacey. I can see right through it though, she's worried, anxious even. My stomach drops a little but I recover and stand up straight. Mum needs my support, I give her a hug and she smiles a half-hearted smile.

"Let's go inside" I say, holding the front door open as mum and dad carry various bags into the house.

"I miss you too" I say into the receiver of the phone

"I'll be back tomorrow afternoon, I don't think I'll come to school because I would've missed half of the day anyway" Maya says

"Can't wait. Hey, did you hear? Hamish is back in town!" I say happily

"Oh yay, we need to catch up, I've missed him" she says excitedly

"So have you talked to Ben recently?" I spark conversation in her love life

"Yeah, I spoke to him just earlier, before I called you actually"

"He said he missed me and he wants me to stay over at his place when I get back"

"Oh, cool" I say, not letting the disappointment seep into my voice. I was hoping Maya and I could catch up, I haven't seen her for a little while since she's been visiting her cousins.

"I promise I'll be at school the day after tomorrow and then after bens house we can catch up"

"Good. I was beginning to think you forgot about me" I smile

"I would never" Maya says teasingly

"Haley! come down for dinner"

"Shit. Maya I gotta go, talk soon?"

"Sure"

"Bye"

"See ya"

"That was really good, mum" I say, putting my plate in the sink

"Yeah, thanks mum" Jake says, putting his plate in the sink after me.

"Hey, dad. I'm going to Katie's place for a while" Jake says, grabbing his keys and phone.

"Ok, son. Don't be too late home"

"I won't" Jake closes the front door and I walk upstairs. Lately Katie's been spending so much time with Jake and I haven't been seeing her as much. It's not like I want to third-wheel with my brother and best friend, and I've been spending most of my time with Dylan so I guess it's just as much my fault as it is hers. Seeing as I have nothing better to do with my night I call Dylan.

"Hello?"

"Hey Dylan, it's Haley"

"What's up?"

"Nothing to do"

"You wanna go for a walk or something? it's a cool night"

"Sure"

"Alright, I'll be at your place in 10"

"Thanks Dylan, I owe you one"

"No problemo Hales" and with that I hung up. I grabbed a jacket seeing as it was a chilly night and my phone. I walked downstairs to wait for Dylan on the porch.

"Hey, I'm going out for a bit, I have my phone" I say, my parents are pretty layed back so I know they will allow me to go out as long as I'm not alone at this time.

"Are you going alone?" my mum asks the question I knew she would.

"No, Dylan will be here soon"

"Ok, don't be out too late"

"Ok, bye mum, bye dad"

A/N Short chapter because I wrote this just before I left. While you're reading this I'm probably gone and I will be for 3 weeks as I've said before. Hopefully I can write at least one more chapter before I go so you guys won't be too disappointed.
