Chapter 10 - First suspicions.

*HALEY'S POV*

"Blue or purple?" Katie asks through the phone

"Blue?"

"Hmm.. should I go with blue? i dont know maybe.."

"Katie, I really want to help you pick out the perfect outfit and all but I really need to go, Dylan will be here any minute now"

"Fine, I'll see you tomorrow then"

"Good luck, love you"

"Love ya too"

I hang up and sigh. Dylan is coming over so we can continue our assignment and Stacey couldn't be happier. She's been excited about it all day.

"Haley! That Dylan guy's here!" Jake yells from downstairs

"Coming!" I yell back and start walking down the stairs

"Hey Dylan"

"Hey-"

"Dylan!" Stacey says excitedly, jumping into his arms.

"Hey Stacey" he says normally, not as enthusiastically or as happily as he did the other night. Stacey hops out of his arms and smiles before heading back to her room.

"So Dylan, this is my brother Jake"

"Hey man" Jake gives him a nod. He seems almost a bit unsure of Dylan.

"Hey"

"So we're just gonna work on the assignment then" I say as I pull Dylan away from Jakes awkward stares

"I'm gonna get something to eat, do you want anything to eat or drink?" I ask Dylan as I stand up and wait for his response

"Sure, I'll help you" he stands and we both walk down to the kitchen where I fix him a drink and some food.

"So how's Macy?" I ask teasingly (A/N Macy is Dylan's kitten)

"Still wish she was a dog, but she's alright" I sip my drink

"What about Max?"

"He's good, he's outside if you wanna say hi"

"Sure, lets go" we both walk outside and Dylan waits for me to go through the door first "thanks" I mumble

"Max!" I call and he comes bounding over with a wagging tail

"Hey boy" Dylan bends down and pats him

"He likes you" I smile

"I like him"

"I've always wanted a dog, since I was about 9 I've wanted one, we did have one, his name was rusty but he died of cancer"

"Oh, I'm sorry. You can come over whenever and hang out with Max and me if you want..." I trail off, suddenly scared of rejection

"Maybe I'll take you up on that offer some time" he almost smiles and there is a hint of a smirk on his face

"What time is it by the way?" He asks suddenly

"Um, 5 o'clock"

"Shit, I need to go, I'll see you later, I guess"

"Ok.. bye" why was he in such a hurry, where did he need to go?

"This is really good mum" I say while devouring the pasta she had prepared

"Thank you dear" she smiles

"Yeah, it's great" Jake says with a mouth full of food

"Gross Jake, chew then talk"

"Sorry"

"Mum! I'm finished and I'm getting sleepy, can Haley take me to bed?" Stacey asks

"Sure sweetie, goodnight" my mum gives Stacey a hug and she makes her way around hugging everyone

"Goodnight Jakey wakey"

"Goodnight Stacey wacey"

"Goodnight daddy"

"Goodnight sunshine"

"Come on Stace, let's go" I grab her hand and take her upstairs to her room.

I tuck her into bed and read her a quick story and after a few minutes she's asleep.

"Goodnight Stacey" I whisper as I turn on her night light and walk out of her room, closing the door behind me.
