Chapter 8 - Trick or treat?

*HALEY'S POV*

"Bye girls!" I call from the door of my house as I watch Katie get into her car and maya walk next door

"We'll see you on Monday!" they call back and I smile and nod

Once they're gone I sigh and he back inside my house, closing the front door.

"Haley! Haley!" Stacey squeals, pulling on my leg. I bend down and look at her

"Yes?"

"I want to show you my Halloween costume!" she says excitedly, making me smile and follow her upstairs.

After rummaging through her closet she finds the costume. I'm not suprised when I see that she's dressed as a minion.

"I'm a minion!" she states the obvious

"Wow, that's so cool!" I exclaim

"Mummy and daddy said they would take me trick or treating tomorrow night!" she says happily, clapping her hands together.

"Awesome!" I reply

"Haley, can I talk to you about something?" my mum asks as she pops her head into my room

"Yeah sure, what is it?" I ask

"Well, I dont know if you know but your father and I agreed to take Stacey trick or treating tomorrow night," she begins

"Yeah.." I trail off, encouraging her to continue

"Well, your fathers boss has invited us both to his house for dinner, celebrating the new office and so we can't take her trick or treating.. Your sister still really wants to go and Jakes got a party tonight so we were wondering.."

"I don't like where this is going" I say

"Please take her, just for an hour or two"

"Mum" I whine

"Haley, your sister is still very young, you were taken trick or treating when you were her age so please take her, it's not a big ask and your father and I don't ask you for a lot"

"Fine" I sigh in defeat

"Great! thanks honey" she gives me a quick hug before leaving the room and I'm left to tell Stacey I'm coming with her.

I get up out of my chair and walk across the hall and push Stacey's door open. Her attention turns from her movie and she smiles at me.

"Hey Stace, can I talk to you for a sec?" I ask and she pauses despicable me.

"Well mum and dad have to go to a very special dinner tonight and so they can't take you trick or treating.." I trail off

Her face instantly drops and she looks like she's about to cry.

"But.. I can take you" I say

Her face brightens and I feel good. It won't be that bad anyway.

"What are you gonna wear?" she asks me excitedly

"This" I signal to my tank top and shorts

"Haley! it's halloween, you have to wear something" she insists

"Um, no thanks"

She crosses her arms and makes a cute pouty face "please?" she asks.

"Fine" I huff. Her smile widens and she repeats her question "so what are you gonna wear?"

"Um, I dont know" I shrug

"I'll figure it out, don't worry Stace" I smile and get off her bed.

I walk back into my room and close the door. I decide to call maya and Katie and ask them what I should wear.

"Hello?" they ask

"Hey girls, so I need your help"

"Go on" Katie encourages

"I dont know what to wear for halloween"

"You're going trick or treating?" Maya laughs

"Not by choice, I need to take Stacey"

"Ugh, I know what you mean, I have to take Jack" Katie says

"Maybe we could go together?" I ask

"Yes! that would be so much better, I just have to keep an eye on squirt"

"Oh ok"

"So.. ideas?"

"Hmm.. a vampire?"

"What about a zombie?"

"Anything else?"

"A creepy doll?"

"Go as a cute nerd!" Maya suggests

"Ok, well I have some red suspenders and I'll just wear them with some denim shorts and I know Jake has a plaid shirt and some knee high socks that I can borrow so I reckon it may just work out"

"I have some glasses you can borrow!" maya says happily

"Can I come 'round and grab them now?" I ask

"Yeah, sure"

"By the way, Katie what're you wearing?" I ask

"I'm not wearing a costume" she says

"C'mon Katie, don't leave me hanging"

"I have nothing to wear!"

"Just wear your tie-dye shirt and some shades and curl your hair, you can be a hippie or something" I suggest

"Fine" she sighs "yes! Thanks Katie!" I say excitedly

"Yeah, yeah, you're welcome"

"Okay, well come over to mine in about half an hour? and we'll get ready together"

"Ok cool"

"I'll see you both soon" I say and hang up
