Chapter 40 - Christmas

*HALEY'S POV*

"Haley, wake up!" My eyes open reluctantly, peeking through my eyelids to see none other than Stacey, perched at the end of my bed, attempting to shake me awake.

I groan, turning over and covering my face with the fluffy comforter.

"Haley!" She wines, pulling the comforter off of my body and exposing me to the cool air.

"What?" I moan, wiping my face with my hands and sitting up in bed.

Stacey smiles a satisfied smile and claps her hands together excitedly.

"It's Christmas! Come on! Get up we need to wake up Jake!" she exclaims, flailing her arms

"Alright, alright. I'm up" I rolled out of bed, nearly falling onto the floor.

Stacey grabs my hand and pulls me to the door and towards Jake's bedroom. I do not allow him the luxury of sleep any longer as I was woken up.

I jump on his bed, followed by Stacey who puts her fingers on his eyelids and peels them open.

"Get up! get up! get up!" She chants, jumping on his body.

"Ow! Okay, okay" Jake puts his hands up in mock surrender and sits up in bed, rubbing his eyes.

"What time is it?" he groans, sending me a subtle glare when I smirk at him.

"It's about 6:30"

"6:30?! Why're you awake, let alone waking me up?" He continues to groan and I laugh, "it's christmas you idiot, now get up!"

A smile makes it's way onto Jake's face and he grabs Stacey in his arms as he gets up off his bed, almost tripping. He holds her in his arms and runs to my mum and dad's room as fast as he can for someone's who's just been woken up, with me following closely behind.

When I push open my parents door, Jake and Stacey are already waking them up and I find myself laughing along with my family as my parents get out of bed. It's moments like these I'll never forget.

We all clamber down the stairs excitedly, ready to open presents.

"Open mine first Haley!" Stacey squeals happily from her stop beside the Christmas tree. I laugh and nod, "okay, okay" I take the small book from her extended arms and slowly unwrap it.

"Hurry up!" She exclaims both excitedly and impatiently.

From the corner of my eye I see Jake shaking his head amusedly at Stacey and I grin as I rip off the last bit of wrapping paper to find a picture frame.

It's not just any picture frame though. It has a picture of Jake, Stacey and I laughing at something dad had said just before he took the photo. After he took the photo, he'd claimed that it wouldn't be as great if we knew it was coming so when we were all just standing around he told a joke and quickly took a snap. The photo was great and I loved it. What made it even better was the frame that Stacey had most likely handmade. It was painted pink with photos from the past year glued to the border.

I look closely at it. There was a photo of our entire family last christmas, all of us bundled together uncomfortably. There was another one of just Jake and I before a party. I saw another of Hamish and I from the beach, my hands clutched to his shoulders as he gave me a piggy back ride. As my eyes trailed over the pictures of Katie and I, I laughed. Katie had pie smeared on her face from her birthday earlier this year and I had pie covering my hands, both of us were smiling at the camera, grinning like fools. I smiled even more when I came across one of Dylan and I. His hands were shoved into his pockets and he had a fake unamused look on his face. I was grinning from ear to ear beside him, wrapping my arms around his shoulders as I hugged him from the side.

I look up at Stacey, smiling so much I'm sure she can tell I love her present.

"This is great Stace! thank you" I hug her tightly and she grins proudly, sticking her tongue out at Jake.

I'd noticed that there weren't any pictures of Carter and I on the frame and I made a mental note to ask Stacey why that was when I wasn't surrounded by my family.
