Chapter 34 - Google
*HALEY'S POV*
"Haley! Hurry up!" Stacey calls from downstairs as I hop down the stairs with one shoe and towards the door.
"I'm ready, I'm ready" I pant, slipping on my other shoe before closing the front door behind me. Jake, Stacey and I make our way to Jake's car and I slide in to the passenger side while Stacey sits at the back, adjusting her seatbelt before Jake pulls away from the house.
A few songs pass by on the radio and I stare out the window before a thought comes to my mind causing me to groan out loud.
Jake turns momentarily and raises an eyebrow before returning his gaze to the road.
"We have to see Susan again" I sigh, shaking my head
"I don't like Susan, when mum and dad took me to see grandma she was rude to me, she called me a brat" Stacey frowns
"What a bi-" Jake begins before I interrupt, "-bad person, what a bad person is what Jake was going to say" I tell Stacey who nods her head.
"Yeah" Jake agrees before laughing.

"Susan" I nod curtly, standing slightly behind Jake with Stacey's hand in my own.
"Whatever-your-name-is" she nods back, chewing loudly on her chewing gum while twirling her blonde extensions between her fingers.
"That's original, think of it yourself?" Jake asks, sarcasm dripping from his tone while scribbling some details onto the sheet of paper he was handed earlier.
"Actually no, I got it from google" she seethes causing Jake and I to laugh and even Stacey joins in. This girl is stupider than I originally thought.
"You're a brat" Stacey says before we head off to our grandmas room, amused smiles take over Jake and I's faces while Stacey grins proudly.
I knock on the door twice while Jake grabs Stacey's hand.
"Come in" my grandmothers voice sounds from inside the small room.
I open the door, stepping in to see my grandma lying in bed, she looks more tired, drained even, than last time we saw her.
"Oh, look who it is!" she smiles widely, beckoning us over. Stacey runs over to her bed and hugs her tight, "I've missed you, dear" my grandmother tells her, smiling down at her, "I missed you too, gran"
"And how are my grandkids doing?" she asks, smiling
"We're all great, gran" Jake tells her
"How are you?" I ask cautiously
"Oh, you know how it is, dear. I'm hanging on" and at that my insides tighten. But what was I expecting? if she had said anything else she would've been lying. I can't help the unsettling feeling that comes with the knowledge though.
"Haley has a boyfriend" Stacey blurts, smiling deviously at me. Stacey's always been good at cheering people up and changing the subject.
"And when did this happen?" my grandma asks, raising a brow
"About two weeks ago" I tell her, blushing
"What's his name?"
"Carter" I say cautiously, looking over at Jake who's fists clench slightly
"I don't like him" he comments bitterly
"You don't know him, Jake" I defend, sighing, I give him a look that says we'll talk about this later. He nods his head, showing that he understands before his attention is returned to grandma and they begin their own conversation. I zone out, staring out the small window.
"Isn't that right, Haley?" Gran asks, turning to look at me
"Huh?" I say distantly
"Never mind, dear" she laughs silently, "I was just stirring you" I don't miss the little sparkle in her eye as she says that and it makes me happy.
