Chapter 31 - The Overprotective brother role
"Carter! stop!" I laugh, batting his hands away from my stomach as he chuckles loudly, he collapses on top of me, kissing me softly as we both smile into the kiss.
The door swings open, I pull away from Carter, my eyes widening as Jake stands in the doorway, his eyes narrowed on Carter and I's proximity, fists clenched at his sides. He takes long strides towards us, backing Carter up
"What the fuck is going on?" he asks, his voice raising slightly as his eyes travel from Carter to me.
"Jake, I'm old enough to make my own decisions" I groan, hiding my face in my pillow
"What the fuck is this sleezeball doing here?" he gestures to Carter, distaste clear on his face.
"Hey! he's not a sleezeball!" I defend, standing between Jake and Carter, I'm almost certain Jake's heavy breathing can be heard from a mile away.
"Calm down, Jake"
"Yeah, mate. She's my girlfriend, it's cool" Carter speaks from behind me and I swear I see Jake's eye twitch
"Get out" he says through gritted teeth, pointing to the door.
"Mate, I-" Carter tries reasoning with him but I see the look in Jake's eye and he's not going to give up.
"Get out. I need to talk to my sister" he repeats, his tone clipped.
"Alright, alright" Carter's arms are raised in a surrender as he leaves the room, glancing my way before he exits and I hear his car pulling out of the driveway. I sigh, way to ruin the moment Jake.
"Why the fuck are you messing around with Carter?" Jake paces the room, his fingers running through his hair and tugging at the roots.
"He's a nice guy. Give him a chance"
Jake scoffs.
"I know what people like him are like"
"Jake, I can handle myself. I'm almost 18, I think my sense of judgment is pretty good"
"It doesn't matter-"
I sigh. "Jake, I know that it's your job to play that whole overprotective brother role" I gesture with my hands "but, I'll be fine. I'm a big girl"
"I still don't like him" he huffs.
"And if I see him here again. Like that" he shudders, "he's dead"
"Alright, alright"
"And if he does anything out of line I'll fucking kill him"
"Jake! I get it! he's dead if he does anything bad to me, got it!"
I hear him mutter something along the lines of, "Fuck. Out of all the people in the world. Why him?"
"When did this even happen?" Jake continues to run his fingers through his hair as he looks at me, sighing dramatically I say, "Friday night, basketball grandfinal, he asked me out" I recite, putting my hand on my hip and giving him a pointed look. "You wanna throw in any more swear words or have you accepted the fact that I have a boyfriend?"
"Fuck. Fuck. Fuck"
"You're blowing this so much out of proportion, Jake"
But Jake, who seemed to be in his own world just continued to mutter under his breath and curse.

I picked up my phone from my side table, collapsing on my bed I decided to text Dylan.
To Dylan: Hey, I need help walking the dogs, come over?
I waited a few minutes before my phone buzzed next to me, notifying me that I had a text message.
From Dylan: Can't, Busy.
To Dylan: Awe that sucks. Maybe another time?
From Dylan: maybe
I raised an eyebrow at Dylan's short, choppy answers. Had I done something wrong to put him in this mood? I shrugged away my thoughts, figuring I'll just talk to him at school on Monday, which thank fully, would be over in just a week, allowing the students to spend Christmas at home.
