Chapter 27 - Exam nerves
*HALEY'S POV*
I walk down the hallways of Barleywater, sighing. Only one more week, I tell myself. The school year has gone by quite quickly and many things have changed. There's two weeks till Christmas and I have to keep reminding myself to buy everyone presents. My birthday is coming up too, on the 1st of January, only my close friends know about it, however. Katie, Jake, Hamish, Maya, Ben and Paddy.
I'm sure, knowing my friends, that they will want to do something, "It's your 18th! you have to do something!" Katie's voice rings in my head.
I shake my head and rid myself of the thoughts. Surely they will just stress me out and I need to focus on my exams which I have spent the past two weeks preparing for.
I grab my books and shut my locker door, biting my nails, a nervous habit of mine.
"You know you shouldn't bite your nails, it's not good for you" Dylan's smug voice startles me and I jump slightly, clutching my chest dramatically
"Don't do that!" I slightly smacked his chest making him laugh
"So, is everything okay?" he asks, turning around and walking backwards, still facing me
"You're going to trip" I warn him
"You didn't answer my question" he fires back
"The exams are getting to me" I tell him, fiddling with a torn piece of paper that hangs slightly out of my exercise book.
"Why?" he asks nonchalantly
"Because they're important! we've spent this whole year preparing for them, Dylan"
"Yeah, so why are you worried? you've had a whole year to prepare"
"And, if I know you at all, you've been studying your arse off for the past week" he adds
"Two weeks" I correct and he smiles widely, a grin making it's way to my face.
"See, you'll ace it, Haley"
"I hope so"
"Anyway, I'll see you around. Good luck!" he tells me, waving his hand as he walks away
"You too!" I call back and I hear a muffled 'I don't need it' making me smile. Dylan is great at comforting me and making me fee better when I'm stressed and I'm so glad I met him.
I walk into homeroom, making my way to my seat and sitting down. The teacher, who I assume is a sub takes attendance and then dismisses us.

"How'd you think you went?" Maya asks me as we grab our trays and head into the cafeteria line.
"I think it went ok actually. I had a little pep talk before hand that made me feel better about it" I tell her, smiling at Jane, the cafeteria lady who smiles back and puts some fries onto my tray
"Hmm, that's good" maya says, eyeing the cafeteria and barely paying attention to me.
"Is something wrong? You seem kind of.. off?" I ask, treading carefully.
"Yeah, I guess I'm just stressed out at the moment" she tells me, her eyes leaving the cafeteria and coming back to me.
"Well, let me know if I can do anything to help. You know I'm just next door" I smile and she grins, nodding she says, "Thanks Haley"
I turn around, eyeing the cafeteria. I smile when I see Hamish already sitting down with Dylan and.. Carter? "I'm gonna grab a seat" I tell maya and heading over to the table.
I sit next to Hamish, facing Dylan and Carter who have left a seat between them.
"Hey" Carter smiles at me and I smile back, giving a small smile "hi"
"Hamish invited me to sit with you guys today, but if you would prefer me leave that's fine" Carter says, looking directly into my eyes
"Well-" Dylan begins, stopping when I swiftly kick him under the table, Dylan curses under his breath, rubbing his shin while he glares at me.
Ignoring Dylan's glare, I say "No, no, it's fine"
Carter's whole face brightens, he grins. "Thanks Haley"
"So how'd the exam go?" Dylan asks me, finishing off his burger
"It was good actually, I think I did fairly well, thanks Dylan"
"I told you so" he smiles and I blush, muttering another thanks under my breath.
"Hey guys" Maya sits down, placing her tray next to me and sliding into the seat.
"I'm actually finished so I'll catch you later, princess" Dylan says, jokingly. I can't help the butterflies that involuntarily flutter in my stomach when he calls me princess.
"So I was thinking, maybe, you wanted to see a movie or something?" Carter asks, dusting his hands off
"Um, yeah sure. Just let me know when and where and I'll be there" I tell him, he nods, smiling "sounds good" with that he stands up, pushing away from the table with a slight squeak and heads out of the double doors of the cafeteria.

A/N Ok so this was a really short chapter and I'm sorry, I guess I just couldn't find the inspiration? I'll try and make next chapter better for you guys and just so you know, school starts for me, tomorrow. Which absolutely sucks and updates will be slower because I need to focus on school. Last of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving this book a chance and for not judging the book by it's first few chapters which I shall admit are very bad. I will go back and edit them when I get the chance, the story won't change but I shall just tweak a few things. Thank you so much for VOTING AND COMMENTING AND PLEASE SHARE! Xx
Thanks xx
