Chapter 19 - It's a date

*HALEY'S POV*

"What movie do you want to see?" Carter asks me

"Um, catching fire? I really don't mind" I respond politely

"Hunger games sounds good" he smiles, turning to the impatient cashier and handing her the money. While Carter is paying I glance down at our interlocked hands and smile

"Here you go" the teenager says dully

"Thanks" Carter smiles anyway and hands me a ticket.

"We've got about an hour till the movie starts, did you want to get something to eat?"

"Sure" I smile and we begin walking to the food court

"It's a nice day outside" I say, glancing up at the roof which is partly covered in glass, allowing the sun to shine into the mall

"Yeah, it is" Carter looks up at the ceiling as well before returning his gaze in front of us

"I think I'm going to get some sushi" Carter says, heading over to the sushi with my hand still in his

"Sure, I guess I'll get some too" I dont know why but I feel as if I should get sushi too. To please Carter

"Cool"

"I'll have three California rolls please" he points to the food

"I'll have one California roll, thanks" I smile

We receive our food and take a seat.

"So what do your parents do?" Carter starts a conversation

"My mum's a doctor and dad's a journalist"

"That's cool, my mum is a reporter and my dad is in accounting"

"That's nice" I smile

"Yeah-"

"Haley?" I look up from my food and see a girl, about 4 years older than me

"Um, hi? I'm sorry, do I know you?"

"Oh sorry" she laughs "I'm Dylan's sister, Gemma" she smiles

"Oh, nice to meet you" I'm very well
Aware of the fact that Carter is giving me a questionable look

"How did you know I was me?" I almost laugh at the fact that I asked that question

"My brother's here with me" she smiles and moves aside, Dylan is standing behind her smiling sheepishly

"Hey" he says

"Hey haha" I laugh lightly

Carter nudges me gently

"Oh, sorry, this is Carter"

"Hi Carter" Gemma smiles

"Hey" Dylan mumbles

"Nice to meet you both" Carter smiles but it doesn't seem completely genuine.

"So what are you guys doing here?" Gemma asks

"They're in a mall, Gem. What do you think they're doing?" Dylan says, amusement laced in his tone.

I muffle my laugh with the sleeve of my jumper. Smiling at Gemma I respond anyway

"We're just going to see catching fire"

"Oh, I heard that's great!" she says enthusiastically

I would invite them to join us but we're on a date and Carter clearly isn't very comfortable in this situation.

Dylan nudges Gemma and it's like a light bulb has gone off in her head.

"Oh, right. Well, I'll see you around then, Haley. Bye Cason!" Gemma says

Carter mumbles something under his breath about his name not being Cason but Gemma has already dragged Dylan away.

"Well that was... interesting"

"Haha yeah, it was"

"So when will you back?" I ask mum through the phone after not talking to her for a few days. Time has flown by and I've been so busy this week that I guess I just haven't had time to call them.

"We should be back tomorrow night, sweetie"

I hear a few mumbles in the background before mum speaks, humour in her tone

"Your sister wants to talk to you"

"Haha ok mum, Love you"

"Love you too"

"Haley!"

"Hey Stacey" I lay down on my bed with my hands behind my head.

"How are you?" I ask

"I'm ok, but I want to come home now" I can imagine her pouting and I smile

"I want you to come home too, Stace, you'll be here tomorrow night and then I promise we can do something fun"

"Yay!" she exclaims and I laugh lightly

"Hey, who is that?" Jake pokes his head into my room

"Stace" I mouth and he smiles, widely

"Can I talk to her?" he whispers and I nod while Stacey goes on about how boring grandmas is

"Um, Stacey, Jake wants to talk to you, one second" I say after she finishes speaks

"Ok, bye Haley, I love you"

"Love you too Stace" I hand the home phone over to Jake who takes it to his room.

My phone buzzes in my hand and I look down at it to see I've received a text, opening it up, excitement rushes through me as I see the contact. Hamish. My best friend who I haven't heard from in a long time because he moved to Thailand

Hamish: Hey Hales, haven't seen you in a while! Wanna catch up? I miss my best friend! :(

Haley: Hamish! :) I've missed you too, how are you? we should definitely catch up soon!

Hamish: I'm great, Thailand was cool but I guess I just missed my friends too much! Haha. I was thinking a group of us go to the beach or something?

Haley: Sounds good! I'll invite the gang :)

Hamish: see you soon! :)

Haley (To Paddy, Jasmine, Katie, Caroline, Jay): Hey guys, you probably heard Hamish is back in town! well we thought about a beach session, who's in?

Paddy: Sure, meet in 30?

Haley: sounds good

Caroline: I'll be there

Jasmine: I'm in

Jay: yeah, sure

Katie: Miss that idiot! see ya soon

I decided to leave Carter out seeing as I saw him earlier today and because I want it to be the original group of friends catching up and having fun. Everyone was devastated when Hamish left, our group is like a family and we all have each others back and to know one of us were leaving was really upsetting. I guess we'll all be happy and good again now that Hamish is back. Maybe I should invite Dylan? he isn't apart of our group but it could be fun and he could get to know my other friends? yeah, I guess I should

Haley: Hey Dylan, a group of us are going down to the beach, you wanna come? it could be fun

Dylan: Sounds tempting, what time?

Haley: Probably half an hour

Dylan: Cool, I'll be there

Haley: See you soon

Dylan: yep

I got up out of bed and headed towards Jakes room. Most of the couples of our group would be there and I didn't want Jake to feel left out.

"Jake?"

"Yeah?"

"What are you doing?"

"Nothing really, why?"

"A group of us are going to the beach in about half an hour, you wanna come?"

"Hmm, nah, I think I'll pass, thanks though"

"Katie will be there"

"Give me a second to get ready" I laugh at jakes sudden change in mood. Katie just brings out the best in him I guess. They are one of the cutest couples ever.

"Haha, cool"
