Chapter 20

I spent the whole day getting ready. From ten to six I was fixing my hair, shaving my legs, plucking my eyebrows, and various other tasks. I waited until the last minute to do my makeup and put on the dress. Austin arrived promtly at six and rang the door bell. My dad opened the door and shook hands with him. I was peaking from upstairs. Austin was so nervous and it showed. I put on my black ballet flats and looked at the floor length mirror. This dress made me look so pretty that I didn't think I could look any better than I did right then. I did, at my wedding, but that's another story. I walked down the stairs and look straight at Austin. He look adorable. He was wearing a black suit with a light blue tie. His hair was messy to make him look like him regular self. He looked at me and his mouth dropped. So did my fathers.

"You look beautiful." Austin choked out blinking a few times.

"Thanks." I said giving him a hug. My dad threatened Austin to have me back by eleven or he'd come over and kill him. I told Austin he had nothing to worry about and we'd be back within plenty of time. We walked outside and sitting in the driveway is a limo.

"Oh my god!" I screamed.

"Did you just look in the mirror and see how amazing you look?" he asked.

"Youre cute." I said giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"So, we're going to McDonalds to eat then we have to got to Roberts to pick up him and Maddy."

"Who's Maddy?" I asked.

"A girl he met at the mall on black friday. He talks about her all the time. Do you listen to him?"

"I try not to." I said. He laughed and the driver started to drive us to our 'fancy' dinner.

We finished our lovely meal and went to Robert's. I must admit, Maddy was gorgeous. She had dirty blonde hair and brown eyes. She was shorter than Robert which made them cute together. She was wearing an aqua dress that had a creative top and a sleek bottom. Robert was wearing a suit with a aqua tie to match.

"I love your dress!" I said to her as she bent into the limo. I wanted to make her feel comfortable because we would be the only people she knew there.

"Thanks. I like yours more." She said smiling. I said thank you and we began to chat. She told me about how she is a competitive swimmer and how she wants to be an author. Robert and Austin were talking about the Bulls then Robert whispered something to Austin and he whispered back. I knew it was about me because they say everything in front of me.

"Guys, don't talk about me. And don't say your not." I said giving them a look. Maddy laughed. She was awesome. I had a feeling we would be great friends. We arrived at the school and Austin told the driver to pick us up at 10:30. It was sevenish and the dance was just starting. We handed Mr. Dixon our tickets and went inside. In Maine we just had a banner that said Winter Carnival, in Texas they had sculptures made of ice and tables decorated with fake snow. It was incredible. It was like dream, and then something had to go wrong. We were all sitting at a table waiting for good music to play when Alex and Hailey come sit down, Alex next to me. We continued our conversations to let them know they weren't welcome. They got up and left and we didn't see thrm the rest of the night.

"Samantha Rae Smith! Get your gorgeous ass over here!" Dani yelled. She looked great. She was in a red one shoulder dress that had plastic diamonds on the sleeve. Her curly hair was down against her darkly tanned skin. I got up and saw Robert starring at her. They needed to date. It was obvious. He didn't look at Maddy the same way he did Dani.

"Well thank you, but you probably look better!" I said carefully hugging her. We talked for a few minutes and then she had to go talk to Sydney about how her and Derrick were doing. I went back and sat next to Austin who pulled me close.

"We have to dance to this." He said pulling me up from the chair.

"I don't eve- OH MY GOD! Is that? Is that Hot Chelle Rae?!" I screamed as I looked at the stage. The school said they would have a band but I thought they meant like a band that played slow songs. Not HCR. Austin started to laugh and I dragged him to the front of the crowd. There he was. Ryan Follese. Standing right in front of me. Then out of the blue, I can feel Austin kissing me. I hear wooping from behind, the sound of Ryans voice singing, girls crying in the hall, but all I could think about was Austin and I. We were now a couple and everyone knew.

We stayed up at the stage for most of the night so I could enjoy the music and see Hot Chelle Rae perform. Austin didn't know many of the songs so he just danced along and watched me freak out when Ryan touched my hand. The band came off and the DJ took over. I got in line to go meet them with Austin but he left and said he'd send Dani over. She came and began to fresk out. She loved Nash. She was scared to death but when we got to go she gave him s huge hug and had a picture taken of her kissing his cheek. I took a picture with Ryan and then went back to our table.

"Did you have a part in this?" I asked Austin.

"Yeah, lets dance." He said getting up from the table. I knew he understood my question but didnt want to talk about it right now. He was so humble and giving. How did I never see this until now?

We danced for the rest of the night. To the slow and fast songs. It was close to what girl could imagine as the perfect night. We left the dance laughing and smiling about Roberts horrible dance skills. Maddy was getting picked up at Roberts so we went there first.

"See you later!" I said as I hugged Maddy. She and Robert waved good bye and we headed back to our neighborhood. Austin asked the driver to just drop us off at the end of the road. He payed the man and we exited the limo. Austin held my hand as we walked down the sidewalk. I was glancing up at the stars when i saw Alex from his bedroom staring at us. He looked angry. It didnt bother me though. I was more happy than I had ever been with him. We approached my house and I stopped.

"What?" Austin said turning around smiling.

"You're too sweet. You know that right?"

"Nah, I just wanted this to be fun for ya." He said looking at his feet.

"Austin, it would have been just the same. Trust me." I said giving him a hug. He smelt like Ralph Lauren colonge. I probably could have died right then and there. He walked me up to my door and kissed my cheek and began to walk away.

"Where the hell do you think youre going?" I said grabbig his hand and kissing him on the lips. After a breif amount if time I could hear coughing from inside. Dad.

"I'll see you tomorrow." I said as I walked in my house and closed the door.

"Fun?" My mom asked.

"Yeah. HCR was there and I met Ryan and it was perfect." I said. I could feel my stomach getting butterflies just talking about it. I went upstairs, put on pjs, removed my makeup, and crashed. Best night ever.
