School starts in a few days and I still have no friends. But that may be partialy my fault since I've locked myself in my room only coming out for food and the bathroom. I don't want new friends. I want my old friends back. Taylor is probably already dating Lindasy, the school whore. I figure I should get some fresh air and exercise before I get too fat. I went outside to set up the basketball hoop.
"Honey, you want any help?" my dad asked.
"No I got it" I replied
I went into the garage and rolled out the beaten up hoop. I forgot how heavy it was. I moved it so the if I missed, the ball would go onto the lawn and stay out of the street. I also forgot that you needed to put cinder blocks on top on the pedastel or the hoop would fall over. I gentaly set down the hoop so it doesnt smash and make a lot of noise.
"Hey dad!"
"Yes?"
"Do we have any cinder blocks?" I asked.
"Uhh, check in the far left corner of the garage! I think the people who lived here last left some!" he responded.
"Kay! Thanks!"
I went to the garage and just as he said, there were a few in the corner. Cinder blocks are pretty heavy too. I picked one up and struggled to get over to the hoop. Tired, I went to get the other one. I lifted it up and barely got out of the garage before I had to set it down. I sat down on the block for a second before Alex and Austin came over and asked if I needed some help. I said yes and they set up the hoop in two seconds. I just stood there wondering how they did it.
"So you ball?" Austin asked
"No, I was just putting this up so i could teach my six year old brother how to dunk." I said sarcasticly.
"Like in that commercial?!?" Alex said excitedly
"I was being sarcastic.."
"Oh" Alex said slapping his head.
"So you do play?" Austin asked again
"Yeah, im not very good though." I said
"I'll be the judge of that." he said with a wink running over to get the ball on the lawn. I could feel my face getting red. Alex saw and looked away as if he didn't see.
"Pass!" Alex yelled at Austin.
"No way!" Austin yelled back as he went in for the lay-up. He missed and Alex got the rebound then scored a three-pointer.
"Show off." Austin said with a cough. Alex picked up the ball and passed it to me. Nervous, I set up and shot. I made it in. Alex passed it back. Again I made it in. We keep going for a few more times then I decided I could show off a little moving back to three point range.
"Ohh, Samantha's got skill!" Austin yelled as the ball swoshed through the net.
"Dang girl!" Alex commented.
"I'm not that good." I replied humbly.
"You kidding me? I've never met a girl who could make a three!" Alex said.
"Really?" I asked
"Yeah!" they both said.
"You should try out for the girl's team at school! None of the girls who played last year were even as close to as good as you." Austin said. My face started to get red again.
"I dont know, what if they think I'm showing off? I want to have friends."
"Hey, we're your friends." Alex said with a smile. His smile was so, I cant even describe. It made my knees weak. I flashed a smile to both of them and casualy said,
"Well, I need to go. I'll see you guys later."
"Okay bye." Austin said
"Bye Samantha." Alex said with a wave.
"Oh, call me Sam!" I yelled back, but they didn't hear me. I could faintly hear their conversation as I picked up the ball. Then all of a sudden I heard,
"Samantha's really pretty."
"I know."
I couldn't figure out who said what but secretly I was hoping it was Alex who said I was pretty.
