Last time: Luka had a successful date, Rin had another fight with Len and Miku broke down whilst thinking about Kaito, stating she has no chance against Meiko.
Miku's PoV
I can't get to sleep.
I feel like some sort of insomniac zombie, having a staring contest with the ceiling.
At the moment, I actually think I'm winning.
Every time I try to get to sleep, all these stupid thoughts rush to my mind, preventing me from ever getting to sleep.
I huff as I twist and turn in bed trying to get to sleep.
Somehow or another, a miracle occurs. My eyelids slowly close and I manage to get to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up at about 8:30am. I sigh, covering my head with the duvet, not wanting to get up and face another day.
I'm half asleep when I hear the doorbell ring.
I throw the duvet off, wander over to the window and peer out, to see who was at the door.
It was Rin.
I quickly change clothes before drifting to the front door to let her in.
Rin smiles gently once I open the door.
"Hi Miku!" Rin says cheerfully.
"Ohayogozaimasu [good morning] - what brings you here, Rin?" I ask, tilting my head.
"I wanted to check on you." Rin explained, letting herself in and taking her shoes off.
"Oh, okay.." I nod slowly. "Let's go to my room, we can talk there."
Rin nods as I lead her to my bedroom.
Rin perches on the bed, and I sit down next to her.
"So, what was all that about you and Len having a fight?" I asked her, recalling the conversation from yesterday.
"Oh.." Rin said, looking at the floor. "Well, there was this girl near our house and I got worried, thinking she was stalking us or something. Len thought I was kidding and got mad at me, saying that I whine about everything and can't stand up for myself. He pushed me into the window during it all." she explained.
"Rin.. standing up for your friends and yourself is one thing you are very good at - it's something I admire you for. Every time you know that Meiko is picking on me, you are always the first person by my side. I am too weak to do that.. standing up for yourself makes you a very strong person." I tell her, hugging her. However, Rin winces slightly so I guess that's the arm she banged against the window. "How's your arm?"
"I haven't really looked at it since it happened, so I'm not sure if it has bruised or bled or what-not." Rin shrugs.
I nod, gently rolling her sleeve up. Sure enough, there is quite a big bruise on her arm.
"Ouch." I say.
"Heh, I know, it hurts like hell." Rin admitted. "Sometimes I hate having a twin brother."
I nod silently, not sure what else to say or do. I can't really relate to this whole having a twin brother thing.
"Anyway, I came here to check on you, not complain about what's happening in my life." Rin said, turning to face me. "I saw the message you sent in reply to Luka, the one about Kaito."
"Oh, um.. yeah." I whisper.
"Miku, you are definitely one of my best friends. If somethings bothering you, you can always tell me." Rin says wisely.
I look at Rin, and can't help but think how much she has changed when I first met her.
The cold attitude she had towards me on that first day had now completely vanished.
I guess Rin has a somewhat tsundere side to her.
"Thank you, Rin." I say. "Well, as you can probably tell, me and Kaito haven't really been communicating since Thursday. When me and Meiko had that fight, he fell through her trap, believing every lie that came out of her mouth. Since then, he has been what seems like avoiding me, and... to think of it that way, it hurts. I keep on telling myself 'you have no chance against Meiko!' because she seems like she has everything, like looks and popularity, and I have none of that, so..." That's when I completely break down.
Rin hugs me close to her, and she allows me to cry on her shoulder.
This is where I'm glad that weekends are a thing. If Meiko saw me in this current situation, she would probably be 100% satisfied, and she would just step up her game.
Rin patiently waits for me to calm down. Eventually I take a deep breath and pull away from her. She looks me in the eye.
"That's where you are wrong, Miku." Rin says, gently taking hold of my hand. "Meiko may look cool and pretty, but just because that's how she looks doesn't mean she is a pretty person. Look here, she goes around picking on people like you. I for one do not think that makes her 'pretty.'"
I shake my head. Rin's got a point there..
"While boys might fall for here because she looks cute, that doesn't mean they will stay with her. If anything, they will hang out with her, discover what she is really like and their feelings for her will dissolve like sugar in boiling water. Kaito will soon realise that, and he will go straight back to you." Rin says, clutching my hand tighter.
I take in all of Rin's words, and they all make perfect sense.
"You're right.." I whisper, smiling a small smile.
Rin smiles back at me.
"Just remember, I have faith in you - we all do. We all believe you have what it takes to stand up to Meiko and win Kaito's heart." Rin says.
I hug Rin tightly.
"You're completely right. Thank you so much, Rin." I say gratefully. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
"No problem." Rin smiles. "Friends look out for each other, right?"
"Right." I grin.
Rin gets up.
"I'm glad you're feeling better. I should probably get going - I have Mount. Homework to climb." Rin says, rolling her eyes.
"Good luck." I chuckle.
"See you at school!" Rin says, and leaves the room.
"Bye Rin! Thanks again!" I call after her. Once she leaves I peer into the mirror.
"I might still have a chance."
Miku: We will end it there :3 find out what happens in the next part!
