Rin's Concern - #57

Last time: Luka stayed up until 5am working.

Luka's PoV

"Hey, Luka!" I hear Miku call.

I turn around to see Miku and Rin sitting on a bench, and I drift on over to them.

"Hi..." I mutter with a yawn.

Rin gives me a death glare.

"You stayed up late last night, didn't you." She says.

"No.." I lie.

"Hmph." Rin says. "Tell me when you went to bed."

I hesitate. Rin is giving me an intimating glare. I sigh, twirling a strand of hair around my finger.

"Five o'clock..." I mutter.

Rin and Miku stare at me like I'm crazy. Well, I guess I am.

"FIVE O'CLOCK?!" Rin yells, standing up. "YOU ABSOLUTE BAKA!"

I can't quite meet her gaze. I look down at the ground.

"What were you doing until so early?" Miku asks me.

"Straight after school I went to the office, and I worked until quarter past one. I got home for two o'clock and done homework. I finished at five." I admit.

Rin is pacing around in front of us. I can tell she is really worked up about the situation.

"Rin, calm down, I'm f-" Yawn.

Rin stops her pacing and looks me straight in the eye.

"No, you are not fine. It's obvious that you are absolutely exhausted." Rin said.

I'm about to respond, but Rin sighs and walks off.

"Rin.." Miku calls after her. She turns back to look at me.

"I'm sorry, Rin." I whisper.

Miku puts her arm around my shoulders, trying to comfort me.

"It isn't your fault. Rin just worries about you." Miku tells me.

"She doesn't need to do that.. does she..?" I ask. Miku remains silent - it's obvious she's worried too. "..oh."

I rest my head on Miku's shoulder.

"Are you going to be okay, Luka?" Miku asks me.

"I'll be fine." I smile.

That's when the bell rings, echoing through the hallways and the corridors. Miku and I walk to homeroom. I notice that Rin is already there, and for a second, our eyes meet.

Rin's eyes are full of sadness and concern - I can't bear to see her like that.

I take my seat and try to concentrate on what Sensei is saying.

Rin's PoV

Luka's behaviour is concerning me.

At the moment, she's fighting to just keep her eyelids open.

I recall the conversation we had on Monday.

She told me that she had to do this, for Iroha's sake.

She told me that she had to take care of Iroha.

Because of that, she doesn't look after herself anymore.
