Last time: Rin discussed with Miku and Luka a sleepover that they want to hold, and Meiko has just made an appearance.
Miku's PoV
"Well, well, fancy seeing you here, Miku." Meiko smirked, lurking towards us. I clench my fists and start backing away, but Rin jumps in front of me, trying to defend me.
"Looks like you don't have much of a Christmassy spirit, Meiko." Rin growled.
Meiko laughed at the smaller girl.
"I was just going to give her my present to her, you know." Meiko smiles. Rin's frown deepens - she knows what Meiko means by that.
"Now, if you'll excuse me.." Meiko says, pushing Rin out of her way and walking up to me.
"Meiko..." Someone whispered.
Meiko turned around to see the source of the small sound.
Luka was standing just behind Meiko, looking at her with sad eyes.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't notice you were there. I was focused on these brats." Meiko said with a 'hmph'.
I blink in confusion at Meiko's sudden change of behaviour.
Rin ran up to Meiko, tackling her to the ground.
"You better shut your mouth before you regret it, you jerk." Rin warned.
"What is a weakling like you going to do?" Meiko laughed, obviously finding this most amusing.
Rin swung a punch at Meiko, who easily dodged and managed to get back up to her feet.
Rin runs towards Meiko again, and Meiko quickly lifted her foot and kicked Rin in the stomach. Taken by surprise, Rin jerked backwards.
Meiko smirked at her little masterpiece and began leaving the area.
"I've had enough fun with the blonde. Next time, I won't let you off so easily." She whispers in my ear as she passes.
I turn around and stare after her, shuddering.
Then I turn my attention back to Rin. She is on her knees, gasping for air, her hands held over her stomach where Meiko had kicked her.
"Rin, are you okay?" I ask, running over to her.
Rin doesn't respond - she just keeps her head down.
I guiltily pull her towards me in a hug.
"I'm so sorry Rin..." I whisper.
"Don't be..." She whispers back in between breaths.
"I shouldn't just run away like that and sit back as she treats you like dirt.." I sigh, hugging her tighter.
Rin doesn't say anything, she just leans back on me as she continues to gasp for air.
Luka slowly approaches us.
"Rin, are you okay?" She asks.
Again, Rin doesn't respond. Luka shoots me a concerned glance.
Rin's PoV
I catch a glimpse of Luka giving Miku a questioning, concerned look.
I want to answer her, but I can't.
Eventually, I regain my breath.
"I'm not giving... up this soon..." I mutter, getting back up to my feet.
"Rin.." Miku whispers.
"Argh.." I say as a sharp pain runs through my stomach.
Miku looks at me worriedly.
"Where did she go?" I ask. All I want to do at the moment is settle this once and for all.
"I'm not sure." Miku replied, getting back up to her feet. "Why? Please say you're not going to go back..."
"Why shouldn't I?!" I yell back at her. "She's...she's hurt you, and I won't let her get away with that..."
"She may have hurt me, but at the moment, she's hurt you worse!" Miku protests.
"Can this at least wait until lunch?" Luka pleads.
"Fine.." I mumble.
===========================
"It's lunch. Now where's Meiko at?!" I yell, frantically looking everywhere for a certain brown-haired girl.
"Rin, she could be anywhere." Miku said with a sigh. "She pops up when you least expect it."
I sigh, walking alongside Miku.
"Well, we will just have to keep looking then." I say. Miku and Luka both look at me, with doubt in their blue orbs. "You guys don't trust me, do you.."
"It's not that we don't trust you! I'm just.. unsure about this whole thing." Miku says.
In the corner of my eye, I see Luka tense up. I look at her. She has an irritated, confused expression, and she's clenching her fists.
"What's wrong, Luka?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
Luka sighs, turning around to face me.
"I.... I just don't know anymore." She says. "You see... Meiko was my only childhood friend. We grew up together, so I can't bring myself to hate her."
I'm not quite sure how to respond.
"It's okay, Luka. I understand." Miku smiles. Luka looks at her friend with a surprised expression.
"Really?" She asks. Miku nods.
"I understand to..." I say quietly, even though I really don't.
If I fall out with someone, that's it. Luka obviously views the situations differently than I do.
Luka smiles a thin smile.
"Thanks guys."
===========================
I feel my body come in contact with the lockers, and they let out a loud crash as Meiko pushes me into them.
She aims a punch at me. I try to block her, but I fail to. She punches me in the eye, causing me to yelp.
"Are you satisfied, Kagamine?" She smirks.
Meiko lets go of me, and I fall to the ground, coughing violently. Meiko smirks once more and walks away.
"Rin..." I hear Miku's voice, and she leans down next to me.
"I'm... sorry... Miku..." I manage to choke out those three words.
Miku hugs me. She is gently sobbing into my shoulder.
"Don't cry..." I whisper.
Luka kneels down beside us, rather speechless.
I pull Miku away from me and look her in the eye.
"It's okay." I tell her. "Everything's okay."
"B-but... Rin..." Miku begins. I wrap by arms around Miku, and she hugs me back.
"It's okay..." I repeat these same words, gently patting her back, trying what I can to comfort her and stop her from crying.
Eventually Miku calms down. She pulls away and looks at me for a while before sighing.
"Rin.. You have a pretty bad black eye.. You might want to go to the nurses office ands see about that." She says.
I shake my head.
"No Miku, I'll be-"
"I insist." Miku says, taking my hand and helping me to stand up.
"I'm coming with you guys." Luka says, following us.
