ANDI'S POV

I twisted the ring on my finger.

Garroth and Aphmau had just left a couple minutes ago.

No one else had woken up.

I watched as Laurence's chest moved up and down steadily as he breathed.

I smiled softly to myself.

Sometime after he woke up, I was planning on telling him that I was pregnant. I was going to tell him earlier, but I knew he wouldn't let me go to the Nether then. He barely let me go even without knowing I was pregnant.

I wanted to help my family. I would have beaten myself up for the rest of my life if I hadn't gone.

I sighed softly and crawled over to Aaron. I moved his bangs out of his eyes gently.

I bit my lip.

I want him to live. He can't die. He can't...

I looked at his arm where he had been sliced. I gently took off the shirt he had used as a bandage. I threw it to the side and took a bandana from my back pocket. I gently wrapped it around his wound.

It'd have to be fine for now until we could get something better.

Suddenly, his face contorted in pain and his breathing got extremely heavy.

"Aaron..." I said softly.

No reply.

"Aaron!"

Still nothing.

I bit my lip. I wanted to stay here but Aaron needed a doctor as soon as possible.

I looked over at (Y/n) and Laurence.

'They'll be fine.' I told myself, but I was still worried.

I shakily stood up and put Aaron on my back.

My side burned like crazy from the arrow that scraped me but I ignored the pain.

I started walking down the path towards PhoenixDrop.

??? POV

I watched Andi carry Aaron back to PhoenixDrop from my vantage point.

I silently looked over at the man next to me.

He was watching Andi and Aaron as well.

I smiled softly to myself.

I turned back and looked at the fainted (Y/n) and Laurence.

I hadn't seen (Y/n) and the rest in more than three years.

I still felt bad for what I did, but I can't change the past.

I was still dizzy from helping (Y/n) keep the portal open.

She was about to die. Her shadow-sense was extremely hard to find, but eventually, I had found her.

She was on the verge of using up all her life-source in order to keep that portal open.

Lucky for her, I owed her... A lot. I considered this as my debt paid. After all, I saved her life.

~flashback within a flashback~

At first when she saw me, she didn't recognize me.

"Who are you?" She had murmured.

I didn't answer for a while, not wanting to break her concentration.

"Who?" She had insisted.

"An old friend." I replied. I was in my shadow form, as was she, and I knew she wouldn't recognize my appearance, however, I figured she would recognize my voice.

"What are you doing here?" She had growled at me, still focusing on the portal.

"To pay a debt." I answered simply. "Now rest, your life source will be gone in minutes. You'll fade away, like an old memory."

I knew that what I was doing was dangerous. We didn't know how much longer the others would be gone.

"I don't trust you." She growled.

"Well you need to or your going to die. And I'm pretty sure Garroth won't like that."

At the mention of her husband, she became silent. "Why are you helping me?" She asked after a while.

"I... I know what it's like to be betrayed by someone... close, to you, now. I'm sorry for what I did to you, your family, and PhoenixDrop. But I can't change the past. That was then, this is now. I was stupid and in love." I grit my teeth, keeping in tears.

He was the reason I was this way. He was the reason I had betrayed my friends. He was the reason my heart was broken. And yet, I still loved him. For some reason.

"(Y/n), now." I had growled at her. I couldn't stand knowing that something happened to her on my watch.

She had slowly lowered her hand before collapsing.

For a moment, the portal flickered, only having me and my power to hold it open now.

I had focused harder and it became stable again. I had felt it draining me already.

A moment later, five people stumbled through.

I had immediately dropped my hand, not wanting any other Shadow-Knights to get through.

I had watched them all pass out, their bodies not able to take the sudden changes.

My vision blurred.

I had panicked. 'They can't know I helped... Not yet anyway.'

I had looked around for a place to hide. Their was a clump of trees and bushes I could hide in, twenty feet away.

I stumbled over to them. When I was a few feet from it, I tripped over one of the people.

He instantly sat up, gasping for air.

"Vylad?"

He looked at me before his eyes widened. "Why are you here?!"

"I had a debt to pay. And I did. (Y/n) will be fine. I don't know what she was thinking. She almost used her entire life source up!"

Vylad nodded. "I'm guessing you don't want to be here when they wake up?"

I nodded softly.

He picked me up softly.

I blushed. "V-Vylad?"

He smiled softly. "Relax... I'll take you to a safe place."

That was the last thing I heard before I had blacked out.

~flashback within a flashback end~

"Thanks for earlier." I turned to Vylad.

He nodded. "Of course. Any time."
