There they were, standing on an overlook of the city, looking at the lights, completely oblivious to the freezing cold temperatures. Cassie sat down on a long log that laid, it was only slightly visible through the thick snow sheets on the ground. Lyle sat next to her, still in awe at the beauty of the city lights.
"So how's the view?" Cassie asked looking over at him. "It's amazing." He was still in disbelief at what he was gazing at.
"It's nice to have someone with me here." She said, he smiled and looked over at her.
"I'm glad to be here." He said, his smile was gentle and filled her heart with joy.
"You know being with you really is nice, Lyle." She said looking over at him, he was lightly blushing at what she said. "Being with you is wonderful, it's really great being with you." He said, both of them blushing lightly.
"You are great, your whole being is just... Perfect..." She said, looking at him instead of the city. His face was red both from the cold air biting at his facial features and from her comment. He opened his mouth to speak but every word he spoke was incoherent, he didn't realise that she couldn't understand him so he continued speaking.
Instinctively she tapped his shoulder three times, her old friend would have speech issues like this too so whenever he got to a point of speaking gibberish without realising it she'd tap his shoulder three times to let him know he was speaking incoherently.
Lyle stopped speaking completely, he looked as if he was at the point of tears yet he was still smiling. Before Cassie could question it he asked something that made her realise who he was.
"Man I hope I'm not getting my hopes up but in year four of primary school I met a girl named Cass who literally changed my life for the best and made me feel like I could do anything after we became friends, she moved but she used to do that same exact shoulder tapping thing. You share a close resemblance to her even though last time I saw her I was eleven, and if you are her I'd really like you to tell me because that would be literally the best fucking moment of my entire life." He spoke quickly but loudly, his hands shaking again.
She stopped and stared before instantly smiling "Ly." Was all she said, Ly was the name of her childhood friend, she never even considered that it could've been a shorter version of a full name like Lyle.
He hugged her, this time she put her arms around him almost immediately. "I'm so glad it's you, I never thought we'd meet again, frankly it's funny how we met again." He said still hugging her. The embrace was long and ended when they began reminiscing.
