It has only been a week since Shannon received her sentence and it just doesn't feel real. Addison and I are having to adjust to living without her here and it has involved a lot of help from Cam, Jade and Ms Allen. I wouldn't be able to make it without them. I tried to reach out to Shannon's Mom to make her aware of what was going on but she didn't want anything to do with us and our conversation was very brief. She didn't even ask about Addison who is her daughter as well. I cant imagine not knowing what my little girl is doing.
I'm very thankful Addison doesn't have a clue what is going on but it breaks my heart that Shannon will miss out on some very important milestones. I have to make sure I record every second of Addison's life, well at least as much as possible so that Shannon can feel apart of the moment when she comes home.
We did learn the next day after Shannon's verdict that Elliott was actually charged as well for her role she played in sabotaging Shannon. She was sentenced to 6 months in juvenile detention and then a year of probation with mandatory counseling. I think that will be good for her, maybe she can get her life back in order. I can't say that 6 months is enough when my wife is serving two years but I try to remember that she is just a child. A child who acted in the ways of an adult but never the less a child.
I'm sitting on the edge of my bed staring at picture of Shannon and trying to figure out where the hell we went wrong when my phone started ringing. I looked at the clock and knew exactly who it was.
"Right on time. Hey baby!" I answered.
"Hey Logan, how are you?" She speaks lowly into the phone. I can tell she is depressed about where She is but I'm trying to be encouraging.
"I'm alright baby, missing you as always. How have you been? You hanging in there?"
"I'm trying the best that I can. I miss you and Addy so much that it hurts." I can hear that sadness in her voice and it bothers me to hear her this way.
"I know baby we want you here with us too but we know that you have to get through this and we will be with you every step of the way."
"Thank you so much Lo. I love you guys so much. How is Addison? Did you get in touch with my Mom?" I let Shannon ask as many questions as she wants seeing as our time to talk is limited. I just want her to get out what she needs to.
"Addison is fine. Same bubbly little girl. I did reach your Mom but she didn't want to talk but that's okay baby. She doesn't deserve to be apart of your life."
"I know but sometimes I wish she cared." I grab some of Addy's clothes from the pile on my bed and start folding them.
"I know you do baby. Maybe one day. You never know but right now don't worry about that. Just focus on you. I spoke to your lawyer, he said that I could come visit in two weeks. Did you decide if you want me to bring Addison?"
"Um.. I don't know. As much as I want to see her, I don't want her to see me like this."
"She is also little, she is not going to remember where she saw you but it is your decision. I will respect whatever you want to do." there was a long pause and for a second I thought that we had been disconnected but I knew I never heard the warning message. "Shannon? You still there?"
"Yeah I here, I'm just thinking. I'm going to stick with you sending me pictures. It will bother me to see her here visiting me. I know she is in good hands and you are going to keep me in the loop with how she's doing and everything." Shannon was interrupted by the automatic voice letting us know that our time is about up. "We don't have much longer, anything you want to say?"
I said the first thing that popped in my head.
"I love you."
"I love you too baby." and with that our call was disconnected until next time. I immediately missed her voice. I laid back on the bed and let out a deep breath. I hear a faint voice yelling from downstairs.
