"Have a seat please." Macarevhic's mom says to me. I sit don't he wooden table. "Ebony I appreciate you for being here for my son these past couple of days, but are you really treating him like you should?" "Well I get mad sometimes." I say. I shrug my shoulders.
"Ebony, if you can't love my son the right way, maybe you should let him go until you're in a better place." Is she freaking serious? I'm not perfect, but I love Macarevhic. "No disrespect, but Macarevhic and I are fine and we love each other. And I'm not going to break up with him."
She presses her lips together. "I understand. Just a suggestion." she says irritably. I get up from the table and I go into Macarevhic's room. He's on face book reading message. I walk behind him. "Some girl send you a message." I joke. "No, something better." I hit him softly on the arm. "Read this." I read the message and I look at Macarevhic. This is huge. "Macarevhic, Christopher Jones wants you to call him." "Yeah I know." Macarevhic Is beaming. "Are you going to call him?" I ask. "I don't know. What if this is a prank?" he asks doubtfully. "What if this is an opportunity God is trying to give you?" I say reversing his question. "It would be a big deal if this happens."
"Yeah I know but Ebony this is happening a little fast." "So, that's how things go. Macarevhic this is something you love to do. You love to sing, and this could be your big break. Just give it a chance. I'm sure it'll be fine." I hand him his cell phone.
"Call him." Macarevhic and I had another fight and it was so stupid! I got mad because girls were starting to act like groupies towards him. They were practically throwing themselves at him. Macarevhic had a record demo single for Christopher's Jones record label.
People caught word of it and been treating him different. When it comes to trusting Macarevhic, I do. He's been M.I.A. for the past two weeks. Maybe it's over for us. That thought makes me want to cry. At least I have Sherese to keep me company. "Girl, your boy Macarevhic is going to be big. I love his song. Aren't you proud of him?"
Sherese says dancing to his new single, "Another night." "Yeah I'm really proud of him." I turn on her TV. I'm at Sherese's house. I haven't been here in a long time. Maybe because her house makes me depressed. She lives in a nice big house. I'm not hating or anything, but it makes me think of what my life could be like.
It reminds me that I'm poor and probably will always be poor. Her room is bigger than Ruth's apartment, and her closet is like fashion heaven. "So, Ebony where are your parents? I haven't seen them in forever?" "Umm, they're on a business trip." I lie.
"They are always on business trips." Sherese turns off the music and sit down on her queen sized bed. "Well, they work a lot." "What do they do exactly?" Sherese asks with a hint of suspicion in her voice. I shrug my shoulders. I'm starting to get irritated with her questions. Why does she need to be all up in my business? "They do traveling business." Traveling business? What kind of lie is that? I don't even think I was trying on that one. "Ebony, come on. We've been best-friends forever. We're practically sisters. Whatever your parents do, you can tell me. I won't judge you." I look into her eyes and I know she won't judge me. But it's my pride. I don't want nobody to feel sorry for me. I do that enough myself.
"You really want to know?" I ask her. She shakes her head yes. "My parents do drugs." I tell her. "What?" she asks. More shocked than anything. "That's what my parents have been doing for the past few years."
"Oh, Ebony I am so sorry about that." That's why I didn't want to tell her. I don't want her pity. "Hey, it's fine. Ivory and I dealt with it and we're moving on. I haven't seen them in a couple of months." "I mean Ebony I never would've guessed. They seemed so perfect and happy."
