That summer I went from unpopular, unnoticeable, Ebony, to now the sexiest, flyest, and most hated on chick in the whole neighborhood. Chicken heads just hates it when they see us together. Arod ain't going nowhere and neither am I. Arod pulls into the crowded school parking lot. We walk inside the school together hand in hand. It seems like everything stops when we enter the building. I catch girls throwing evil nasty looks at me. I give them one of those ha-ha-I won-chicken heads- victory smirks. I squeeze Arod's hand, and we walk down the hall. I hear excited whispers. Arod seems unaffected by the sudden attention.

Arod and I depart from each other, and go our separate ways. I watch Arod do his thang. He got such charisma, and he's tall, good looking, nice, smart, and he got a head full of waves. All of that finess in one human body ain't natural.

"Ebony," calls the familiar voice of my best friend Sherese. Sherese is my home girl, we go way back to kindergarten, I love her like she's my sister. She even used to beat up the kids that made fun of me, because I had buck teeth. I used to cry and everything. Little kids can be cruel. She's not one of those mannish looking girls.

You know big, with huge muscles, nappy hair, and the walk of a man. She's is just as girly as me, but tough as bricks. Sherese is a character. She is crazy but I love her anyway. "Hey, girl," I greet and give her a hug. "How was your summer?" I ask. "It was nice, you know the same really. Except when my uncle and cousin got the fighting at the family reunion. It was crazy. We had to call the police and everything. I don't need to ask how your summer was. I saw you and Arod walking down the hallway, like ya'll Beyoncé and Jay-Z." I laugh. "You know it girl. I laugh at all those chicken heads over there hating on me."

"So, how did this happen?" she asks generally excited. I tell her the whole story. "Good for you girl, I'm happy for you. I'm glad you also got a little confidence about you now." Her eyes look over my shoulder, so I guess she must be looking at the love of her life Malachi.

Malachi and Sherese have been together for three years now, and they met back when Malachi was into drugs, and the whole "gang lifestyle." She help turned his life around, and it wasn't easy for her.

She got through it, and she stuck around with him. Tears and all. Now it looks like they have nothing but pure love for each other. She runs to give him a big hug, and kiss. I go on to get my schedule and locker number. I open my locker and fill it with school supplies I don't need and probably not gonna use. The bell rings, and the crowded hallway, becomes a swirl of excited, and fast movement.

Somebody grabs my hand. I look up to see it's Arod. He looks awkward. "What class do you have?" he asks me. I dig my schedule out of my purse. "I have English." I tell him. "Okay, let's go." We walk hand in hand down the hallway. People stop to wave and speak.

I catch a couple of jealous looks from other girls. It's amazing how much attention you can get, for just dating a certain person. Arod is tall, good looking, light-skinned, a potential NBA player, and he has money. He always dresses fly, and have a nice car, and jewelry.

So, why wouldn't he get attention from other people, and why wouldn't girls be jealous of me. He chose me to be with him. He chose me to be his girl! That's crazy! I ask myself all the time what do I have that's so special, that he chose me over the other girls at school? It's certainly not my looks. I'm okay looking, I'm average. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm 5'7, I'm medium brown skinned also, I have dark brown eyes, long black hair, which goes past my shoulders. I'm kind of slim and a little curvy, and I have big lips. Average. Well maybe a little bit over average. In other words I ain't no big booty super thick video dancer chick. We stop outside the English room door. "Well, I'll see you later," he says. I could feel all the other people looking at us. He bends down and kisses me. "Love you." he tells me.

He says it quick, like he is embarrassed to say it. "Love you too." I tell him. I walk into the classroom, and I take a seat by Sherese. "Dang what's up Ebony. The summer has been good to you girl." says Mike, the school biggest playa. He's on the football team, but he's good friends with Arod.

I roll my eyes, I've known this dude for years and he's just now saying something to me. I ignore him. "Aye, Ebony don't be like that girl. If you act right I'll put you on my list. Girl you so fine you could be in my top ten." "Mike, swerve." I diss him.

His group of friends laughs at him. Mike is one of the many boys that has stepped to me since my transformation. Even some older dudes in my neighborhood try to talk to me. I don't even notice any of them, because all I can see is my sexy boo Arod. Plus, those dudes are some bums, and I don't even give them a freaking second look.
