Chapter 4

Chapter 4: darkness

Black... Just pure darkness. Silence. Pain. My body throbs and I can barely feel anything. Unable to move or open my eyes. Just a black filled canvas fills my eyes. I start to think my head hurting. Thinking about what has just accrued.

Dan... Oh my god... What if their dead. I feel the urge to cry but not even crying is a reason to move at the moment. I try and force myself to open my eyes but can't. Just trying to move but hopeless. Dan! Please! Let me see Dan! I yell in my head hoping for a response but nothing can hear me.

I try will all my strength struggling to open my eyes but it doesn't work. Pure hopelessness. The silence in my ears starts slowly fading into sirens. Is that an ambulance. Please don't be dead. What are they doing. I ask myself many questions that will be unanswered.

I struggle to move. My finger twitches. Yes! Please! Open your god damn eyes! I yell at myself. My hand twitches again. I struggle to open my eyes.

Finally! They open! Slowly my eyelids move opening my eyes that are blinded by light. My eyes slowly come into focus and I realize I am looking at the driver seat. Dan's... Gone... He was absent from his seat. My mind then goes into a state of panic. "Dan..." I whisper. A tear falls down my cheek. The front window is broken and covered in blood. I am too scared to look any further and close my eyes.

Starting to cry. The sirens get louder. "Lena?" I hear a voice speak weakly. "Lena!" It speaks louder. "Mitch..." I whisper weakly. Leaving my eyes closed. "Dan..." I sob slightly harder. "Alice... Everything is going to be ok..." Mitch speaks softly and calming. "Lena baby? Wake up... Please" Mitch whispers to Lena. She moans in pain slightly. "Baby... Can you hear me?" He asks. I could tell he was nearly I tears by his voice.

All i could think about was Dan. He must be dead. Where is he. Chills went up my spine at the thought of Dan being dead. He can't be... Dead. This isn't happening. This must be a dream. This isn't real life. It's just my imagination. I hear the car door open. Mitch steps out of the car and takes Lena out of the car placing her down on the grass. "Baby what hurts?" He asks kneeled down by here. "Mitch..." She whispers weakly. I can hear Mitch start to sob quietly.

I then hear footsteps and my car door then opens. My eyes still closed I fell someone grab me and place me onto the grass with Lena. It was Mitch. Tears still in my eyes I started to feel my breathing get irregular as I cried weakly and quietly. "Dan..." I whisper hoping for Mitch to look for Dan. "Right... Dan..." Mitch speaks still in tears.

Mitch stands up and walks back over to the car looking at the front wind shield. Traumatized by all the blood. He looks at the other car that had crashed into a tree after hitting us and swerving away. Them Mitch looks at the pavement. "No..." He whispers looking down. Mitch sees a body face down on the pavement.

He looks back at our now destroyed car and calculates the possibility. "He had his seatbelt on! How did he...." Mitch discusses with himself. Not questioning anything he runs to the body. Mitch kneels down and grabs the body's shoulder. He pauses a moment before flipping it over, and cringes. Bursting into tears. It was Dan...

I fell myself cry harder knowing that Mitch was not just crying for no reason. I then open my eyes again. Gaining back my strength. My arm feels weak as if it was broken but I sit up lowly struggling. I look down before glancing back at Mitch who is kneeling in the road. "Mitch?" I speak softy, feeling dizzy. "Is he..." I ask. Mitch looks up with no reply and cries.

I stand up slowly a bit light headed. My body still throbbing and feeling disoriented. I limp to Mitch and sit beside him refusing to look at Dan. The sirens get louder and I can tell there close. "We don't know yet... Go help Lena..." I whisper with a tear in my eye. Mitch nods and walks back over to Lena. I sit in the street knowing that Dan is right behind me, debating weather I should look. I close my eyes and turn around slowly opening them.
