Chapter 10

Chapter 10: explanation

I slowly slide my hands from my eyes, running my fingers along the scrapes that now cover my face. The room is darkened by the clouds that were blocking the sun. The original white walls now changed to a light grey. I divert my attention to the door, where Baylee now stands. She walks toward the bed slowly. Her shoes taping along the floor as she slowly comes to a stop. "The doctor said he needs to see you..." She speaks steadily and looks down at the tiled floor.

I nod, sliding my legs along the sheets. Placing my feet firmly on the floor. "I'm ready..." I nod, in a standing position. Baylee looks up at me and smiles slightly, then she glances over my shoulder. "I'll stay here..." Mitch mumbles. As me and Baylee start towards I notice that Scarlette is staying behind as well. My mind started to wonder what the doctor was going to say. Hoping for good news.

As I walk through the hall people rushed past us quickly almost panicked. I look down at the paved floor only keeping my attention on Baylee's feet as she walks in front of me. I could feel this unpleasant and panicked vibe as we walked through the hall. It gave me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Finally Baylee drifted towards the left of the hallway, finally stoping. I look up realizing we are at a door. Baylee opens the door and steps in holding it. She then gestures for me to step inside, so I do so. Walking cautiously I stay along the wall feeling weird to step into the center of the room. I notice that Dan and Adam are inside along with a man.

Baylee goes over to Adam and leaves me and Dan to stand beside each other. I glance down at my hand wanting Dan to take it, but know that he no longer had feelings for me. "Hello, I'm Doctor Roberts" the man now steps up to me extending his hand. I look up at him and grab his hand shaking it firmly.

"Hi... I'm Alice!" I say, faking a smile to be polite. He smiles stepping back. "Ok well I just wanted go over everything going on. I know you both have been through a lot..." He pauses, and looks at me. "You can leave tomorrow we just need some more tests." He adds smiling. "Now Daniel... In the accident. You hit your head hard enough to cause memory loss... Now this isn't definitely permanent." He says looking back at me. "This can be fixable. It's best for him to be brought back into his normal daily routine to help his memory come back." The doctor finishes.

I look over at Dan and he looks scared, worried, and unsure. "Will I ever regain it all..." Dan asks puzzled. The doctor looks at him innocently. "This could be temporary so it's possible." The doctor replies. "But... How possible?" Dan asks hesitantly. "I'm afraid, it's not very likely... But it still possible" the doctor says trying to cheer him up.

Dan looks down. I could tell he was beside himself. The room grew silent. "I'm going to leave now... You are free to stay in here and talk if you would like... " the doctor said. I watched as his tall figure walked to the door and he opened the door stepping out. The door closed slowly allowing some noise from the hall to come in the room. The door slammed shut leading to more silence. I look up at Dan.

He stares at the floor, paying no attention to me. "I... I'm sorry..." He whispers, closing his eyes. I wasn't sure what to say. "It's not your fault Dan..." Adam replies putting an arm on Dan's shoulder. Dan looks back up at Adam and fakes a smile. I continue to stare at his distinct cheek bones that gave me butterflies. I smirked uncontrollably without realizing. Dan looked over at me and I instantly stopped grinning.

"I'm mostly sorry to you..." He spoke softly. I smiled. "It ok... There's no way you could have stopped this from happening... It was fate" I respond grinning in honesty. He smiles back. As I thought more about the situation I realizes how awkward he must feel. Being surrounded by total strangers that already have feelings toward you. It amazed me.

"I'm sorry for asking this... But would you mind explaining what happen?" He asks staring at me. I look at him hesitantly. "No... It's fine..." I reply, preparing to explain. "We were on our way to a house in LA that we are staying in over the summer. Mitch and Lena came to my house here you had been staying with me. We left pretty early and you were driving. It was about half way into the drive when it happen. A car was driving on the wrong side of the road." I wasn't able to explain any further.

Dan looked back down at the tiles and I could tell he was trying to focus and became lost in his train of thought. I stood there trying not to cry. "I... I don't know..." He whispers looking down. There is another silence that fills the room. "We should just sort this out when we leave the hospital... I mean Dan at least knows me so you won't feel that uncomfortable" Adam speaks trying to move us along out of the room. "Let's go..." Baylee adds dragging me out. Adam and Dan follow and we are brought back to out rooms.
