Chapter 6: blackout
I can hear sirens and a slight bickering of men's voices. The small beeping of machines that are now covering my body with tubes and wires. I keep my eyes closed, too weak to open them. I start to think about Dan. Knowing he was alive was a good sign but who knows what else can go wrong. Nobody can know whether he is truly ok.
What about Lena... And Mitch. It's not just the physical damage I'm worried about. This will definitely be a moment I will never forget, and obviously not in a good way. I can't stop imaginings Dan's face before we crashed. His happy bright face, dulled and full of fear. That look on his face...
I'm sure he was drunk, or even texting. Nobody in their right mind would have driven onto the wrong side of the road like that. I know this makes me seam like a bad person but unless they had a good reason to crash into a few innocent teenagers, I hope their dead. I'm tired of hearing all these story's of people that were drinking and driving or texting and crash. I'm done with the stupid people...
I hear doors open and the sirens stop. Motion making me dizzy and people speak is almost panicked tones. My hearing starts coming in and out slowly disappearing into no sound at all.
My vision starts fading into white. Becoming brighter very gradually. I then feel my body as if I'm standing up. I look down at my hands and realize I must be dreaming. My clothes are white and there is nothing but a small white room. I turn around examining the room, and realize a door behind me. I walk towards the door and reach a hand out.
Curious to what's on the other side but at the same time cautious I stand there with my hand on the door nob. What lies on the other side of this door is unknown and I discuss with myself the pros and cons of opening the mysterious door. Before fully deciding, it was to late. My curiosity got the best of me and I turned the door knob. I pull the door towards me slowly and peak through the crack.
On the other side of the door is darkness. Pitch black. Just a black room. I stand in the doorway with the door wide open. Right in the middle where the black and white meet. Staring into the darkness. Motionless. I am now unable to move. Stuck. Between both fates.
In a situation of such distress I was surprisingly very calm. I close my eyes for a moment. Reopening them I notice a face in the darkness. Just two big brown eyes staring at me through the black atmosphere. Nervous feeling hits me in the pit of my stomach. The face slowly comes closer and I'm still frozen.
I close my eyes again hoping the face will go away. This time I count. "1...2...3...4...". Right before getting to 5 something grabs me in a tight embrace pushing me backward from the archway of the door. I let out a loud scream in terror then opening my eyes. I push them off me and step back.
"Dan?" I whisper. He grins slightly. Before he can speak I run back to him and squeeze him tighter then I've ever hugged anyone ever. Tears roll down my face and he squeezes me back. "Alice..." He whispers still holding me tightly.
I then become confused to weather this is really a dream. Loosening my grip on Dan I step back. "This is just a dream isn't it... I don't really know you are ok..." I whisper to myself. My question is left by no response. I look up at Dan that is dressed in all black and is now standing in the white room. The door behind him still fully open and allowing some darkness to escape into the white room.
I look into Dan's eyes and he just stands there looking worried. Both of us unsure what to say. "I can't remember..." He whispers so quietly I could barely hear him. Dan then takes a step back into the black room slowly disappearing into the darkness.
I walk back to the door and close it. Locking the door and my vision slowly fades back to black. I can hear again. Just a small beep is to be heard. Assuming it was my heart rate. I feel a bit stronger then before giving me the confidence to wake up. I open my eyes slowly my vision blurred and out of focus.
"Guys she's awake..." Someone whispers.
