Chapter 25: it happen to fast

Instinctively my body flew forward. I sprinted to the door swinging to open. Frantically running to the table. I grabbed Dan by the shirt basically ripping him off the seat. "We have to get inside!" I waled telling the others. I sprinted inside still holding Dan's arm. Baylee, Adam and Bridget followed. Another shot rung through my ears. "Lock the doors!"I turned to the cashier who I was speaking with before and he ran to the doors locking them.

I looked around for a place for us to hide. The kitchen seamed to be the only good place for protection. "Can we go in the kitchen?" I asked the workers nearly crying. I felt fear fill my body now in realization. Another shot snapped outside followed by sirens. "Yea... Uh go!" The boy said. I ran into the kitchen and sat down in the corner. As I looked around everyone was in shock almost. Everyone but Bridget. She was balling her eyes out.

I looked around again and realized something. "Where's Rebeca?" I whispered. Bridget continued to cry. Nobody answered. I stood back up and walked toward the counter. Crouching so only my eyes peeked up over it. I glanced out the front windows and right as I saw it I closed my eyes. She was on the floor and all I could see was red all over her. I turned back around opening my eyes and walked back to the corner.

I realized why they were all in such shock now. I sat down and bent my knees, hugging them. Tears filled my eyes as I was now also in shock and terrified. There was silence other than the sounds of small weeping. "We have to get her..." Dan whispered. "What?" I looked up talking softly with tears in my eyes. "We can't leave her out there... She needs someone" Dan whispered again. His face was pail and he just stared. Almost in a trance.

He began to turn around and walk. "Dan! No!" I said a bit softly in fear. He stopped durning his head to the side. "Someone has to..." He whispered again. I saw his eyes getting watery. I started thinking. "Come here." I whispered. He then walked up to me and sat down. He was now next to me and Bridget sat next to him on the other side. She cried quietly as her tears fell down her cheeks. Dan out his arm around me.

He was once again staring at the floor, in some kind of trance. I didn't know what to say. I heard Baylee start breathing heavily. She leaned up against the counter and her heavy breaths continued. It became silent. Then again, a crack, followed by screams. I looked at Baylee and she had jumped from the noise. She was now shaking slightly. "Baylee? Baby, are you ok?" Adam whispered grabbing her on the shoulder.

She didn't reply for a moment. "We... We are going to die... I'm gonna die..." She whispered back shaking. "Sh... Just relax baby... Take deep breaths, calm down. I want let anyone touch you" Adam whispered in her ear now hugging her tightly. I saw her eyes watering and as she closed her eyes one tear fell. All of us in shock and fear. He was still out their and Rebeca is out there on the floor.

I looked around the kitchen and saw the cashier from before. He looked over at me and turned away frowning slightly. He must have seen Dan's arm around me. I started to think. Think about Rebeca. Think about why another thing like this would happen to me and Dan. Causing our friends to possibly die again. I feel like it was no longer a conincidtance.

Dan stood up again. "I have to go out there!" He spoke as he glanced out the window. "Dan no... Wait till the police get here..." I replied. "I have to go!" Dan began to walk toward the window. I jumped up grabbing his arm. "No!" I said loudly. Regretting it afterwards because I knew we needed to stay quiet. "I can't leave her out there Alice. I can't just watch someone die... Knowing we could have saved her..." Dan at first spoke loud and then slowly got quiet into a whisper.

I didn't know what to say. I knew he was right but I couldn't let him go. "Dan... One person dying isn't as bad as two... We will get her to the hospital right when the police get here... Please." I whispered begging him to stay. He turns around. "But, we can't leave her out there..." Dan whispers back again. "Please..." I whisper once more desperately. He closes his eyes and looked down. There was silence as Dan was thinking.

"For Bridgette..." I whispered very quietly. Dan then walks past me bumping into me and walks back to the wall. He kneels by Bridgette and begins to talk to her. I just watched listening carefully. "Everything is going to be ok... The police are coming and I won't let anything happen to you... Rebeca will be ok..." Dan lied. He knew she may not be ok.

Rebeca just continued crying silently covering her face. Dan sat next to her on the wall and put his arms around her to comfort her. I looked around the room at everything happening. Baylee and Adam were still hugging and Baylee was crying, still shaking. Dan is holding Bridgette. The two workers were in the corner scared out of their mind and then theirs me. Standing in the middle of the room with nobody.

I have to get Rebeca. Her blood is on our hands, literally. I began to walk toward the door, ignoring the fact that I just told Dan not to go out. There hadn't been a shot in a while and I had to! I began to speed walk. I reached for the door handle and gently placed my fingertips on it. As I pulled the door open it clicked. I heard a gasp from behind me as I opened it wider and stepped outside. The door begins to shut behind me but a shout. "Alice No!" They yelled. I could tell it was Dan's voice. As soon as the realization set in for what i had just done I sprinted over to Rebecca's body.

She had a hole in her shoulder area almost in her collar bone. She had her eyes closed which worried me. "Rebeca wake up... Stay with me, open your eyes." I talked a bit quietly. Her eyes opened slowly. "Alice?" She said in a wavery voice. "Yes. Keep your eyes open ok? The paramedics are coming to fix you up" I said almost bringing a tear to my eye. I could see the pain in her eyes. Followed by fear.

"I'm scared..." Rebeca whispered. "It's going to be ok, just relax... The police are coming" I hoped to hell that they would come. I could hear sirens in the distance but they weren't close enough. "Hang in there, for me please" I whispered to her. I was staring into her eyes hoping that she would keep them open. I was focusing on her pulps. "Ok..." She whispered. "Look at me, don't close those eyes." I whispered again.

I quickly glanced down at her wound and my stomach turned causing me to look back up. "It hurts..." Her eyes filled with tears. "Just hang in there, it's almost over" I spoke back. Placing a hand on her uninjured shoulder. There were a few moments of us staring into each others eyes me trying to help her focus on staying awake. Her eyes were distracted my something causing her to stop looking at me and I noticed two feet beside her body.

I watched as her eyes widened before closing again. "No Rebeca!" I screamed. I looked up expecting it to be Dan or something. My heart dropped into the pit of my stomach when I realized it wasn't Dan.
