Chapter 8

Chapter 8: things change

I sit on my bed and the room is silent. Everyone just sitting in the few seats placed in the room. Baylee on Adams lap because there's not enough seats. I try to think of something to say but Dan is taking up all the space in my mind to think.

"Am I allowed to go see Dan?" I blurt out slightly day dreaming. "I'm sure you can... He's just asleep" Adam replays holding Baylee on his lap. "Hold on" Scarlette says standing up. She walks to the door and opends it. "Excuse me? Nurse?" She calls politely. I see her strike up a conversation with a woman that was walking in the hall unable to hear her.

Scar walks back into the room. "The nurse said you can but someone has to go with you." Scarlette says sitting back down. I nod and smile. "Ok" I say looking at all of them. "Baylee?" I call. Baylee looks up directly at me. "Yea?" She asks. "Can you come with me?" I ask a question back. Baylee smiles. "Sure" she replies standing up. She gives Adam a small kiss and helps me out of the hospital bed.

"You sure your ok to walk?" Baylee asks me. I nod. "I'm fine". We then continue to the door and walk down the hall. Baylee asks a doctor near by what room Dan is in and he directs us there. As I come across the door I freeze. Randomly getting a bad feeling in my stomach and feel scared. "Ready?" Baylee asks with her hand on the door nob.

I nod and she opens the door. I enter the room and there's Dan. Laying on his bed, sleeping like a little angel. I smile stepping further into the room. His body full of scrapes and he had stitches on his forehead. I sit at the edge of the bed and grab his hand. The beep of his heart rate continue every few seconds. He had a few wires in his arm.

Baylee sits on the chair placed in the room. I feel tears fill my eyes as I look at Dan's beaten up face. Why did this have to happen to us. It's not like I have ever done anything wrong...

Finally tears fall from my eyes but I stay silent. Letting them fall from my cheek. I look down at Dan's wrist and realize that they had left his bracelets on. Still holding his hand I used my free hand to slide off his pink and purple tie-die bracelet off. After successfully taking it off, I let go of his hand for a moment to slide it into my own wrist.

It fit my wrist perfectly snug. I then grab onto his hand again. Wiping my tears away. I sniffle and hope that Baylee didn't notice the tears. I close my eyes hoping that somehow Dan will be ok and everything will be back to normal.

I hear the door open so I open my eyes and glance at the door. It was just Adam. He walked in and Baylee stood allowing him to sit, then sitting into his lap and he put his hands around her.

My eyes move back to Dan's face. His beautiful face. I look down slowly moving my head to his chest and snuggling into him. I listened to his heart beat and tears fall from my eyes again. "Please be ok..." I whisper as a year falls down my cheek.
