"Emily you need to wake up," I thought I was dreaming and then I snapped out of it and realized how late it was already. I don't know why I kept staying up so dang late that's what always does it. I sit there on the edge of my bed trying to wake up enough to walk downstairs and get ready for school. It was the beginning of the second semester in my Senior year, so it's kinda like another first day. New teachers and all that stuff and wondering who is in your classes and, if you have to make new friends or not... That's why I'm glad this is my last time having to worry about that, at least until college, because I decided to take a year off.
But yeah I rushed to get ready and realized how cold it was here and the fact that it had snowed, again. I threw on jeans a flannel shirt and my boots, and called it done, because that's pretty much what everyone wears around here. I went out to warm up my old truck, Gertrude, because she takes forever. Before leaving I got the "Oh Em please be careful the roads are slick..." blah blah blah.. She knows I know how to drive in the snow and Gertrude has 4wheel drive anyways. But being used to that whole lecture every winter morning I said Bye and love ya to my Mom and brother Travis, since he didn't have a first block class, he gets to sleep in every morning,... Lucky, insert curse word here.
Once finally getting to school, after being stuck behind a little grey Honda who obviously didn't know how to drive, even if there wasn't snow, I was almost late... Due to the start of second semester they rearranged the schedule and put homeroom first so the little freshies could get there schedules and figure out where to go again. I got parked and had to practically jog to homeroom and got in the door just as the music stopped. My teacher raised her eyebrows and told me not to cut it slow close next time. I apologized and took my normal seat, next to where my brother would've been since we are fraternal twins and homerooms go by last name. I did'nt have too many friends so I hung with my brother and his closest friend, Scotty, all the time. When Scotty walked in late our teacher just pretended not to notice because he always had some brilliant but believable excuse.
"So what's the excuse today," I whispered.
"I was actually gonna tell the truth and say I overslept."
I was shocked because that wasn't him, "Oh really?"
"Yeah but it doesn't look like she cares anyways," he grinned.
I just sat there rolling my eyes which made him laugh.
"Oh com'on Em, you know you wish you could be this cool," he teased.
I just rolled my eyes again, partially jealous but I wasn't going to let on.
As our teacher handed out our new schedules it was instinct to switch with Scotty and was see what our classes were, and if we had any together. I snapped a picture of Travis's and sent it to him to which not even a second later he called asking about ours. We were all Seniors, but we still acted like kids about this type of thing. Sure enough we all had the same math class Functions 1 with Ms. Damon. The boys had one other class together while I was left alone.
Scotty patted my back saying "IS little Emmawee gonna be scared all by herselfff,"
I punched him in the shoulder, laughing. "Nah I'll be fine, but as for your arm.. not so much."
I heard Travis laughing over the phone and we said we'd see him later. As Scotty complained that his arm was stinging, "Now who's the baby," I teased back..
