~Scotty’s POV
Em and woke up the next morning all cuddled together. I didn’t want to wake her but I had to. I just wanted to wrap my arms back around her and fall back asleep, even though we had to be up to get to the airport on time. I got up and took my shower and started to get dressed, and then she woke up after I had finished that, taken her shower, and then we packed and called my security guard.
Grant showed up in a blacked out SUV not even 10 minutes after I called him. He loaded our suitcases and had us wait inside just in case anyone recognized me. We got into the back seat and began the half hour drive to the airport. Emily fell back asleep on my shoulder and I was tempted to do the same. When we pulled up there was a line of more black vehicles and people were swarming each one. We were told not to leave or show any sign that we were in the back, in case some crazy fan tried to do something. Another group of men opened the trunk and loaded our suitcases to get to the plane. Our SUV then went into a parking garage and all of us, Em, me and the rest of the contestants, were ushered onto a runway bus and we were taken right out to the plane. They waved that beeping security thing over all us before we boarded, you know just in case.
For the whole ride people would either be talking or sleeping, since the flight was 5 hours. I decided to follow suit and fall asleep.
~Emily’s POV
All of this special treatment was pretty cool. First the SUV ride to the airport, then the bus ride to the plane, and now we get complementary pillows and blankets, for the flight. The pilot said that it would take around five hours to get to Hollywood, but he wanted to stop around Texas to get gas, just to be safe. We weren’t going to be getting off the plane for a while so I just fell asleep next to Scotty.
*6 hours later*
There was a lot of movement and then the cabin microphone came on saying prepare for landing for the last time. Huh, we must have slept through the landing in Texas. I didn’t realize I was that tired. Good thing I had gotten my rest though because there is a huge group of fans, a lot with Scotty McCreery signs. Great. We were put into another runway bus and brought to a parking garage where everyone’s cars had been dropped off. We were to all check into the same hotel, family and guests included. The way this is going is a security guard was to drive out first then one of us then another security guard. We were told to drive like it was a funeral procession, as to not stop at traffic lights and continue as one unbroken line, all the way to the hotel. At the front and the end of the line there was a cop on a motorcycle. As always there was a group of people waiting outside the hotel, honestly how to do they do that, figure everything out and always be where we are, it’s creepy.
After getting up to our rooms we were told to stay inside and not tweet about our hotel location, due to the massive fan group growing outside. They said that dinner was in an hour, since we didn’t have lunch on the flight and also since it was now 5 at night. Wait I forgot about time change. Our bodies thought it was 5pm when it was really only 3pm.
~Scotty’s POV
I felt like I was sleeping too much, but I had never known how tiring flying really is. As well as the constant fan sightings and how they always want a signature. Em and I just decided to sleep until dinner. Two hours later there was a knock on the hotel room door. Dinner had arrived as room service and it was really good. I forget what they called it, but it was pasta and this amazing cream sauce, and side salad. That’s what we get for being on the American Idol train, haha. After that we fell back asleep and Grant said that we didn’t need to be up until 11am for lunch and an interview. Sweet we can sleep in too. Emily curled up next to me in bed and was able to fall asleep before me, lucky.
The next morning we woke up the same way cuddled together. I honestly love this. I woke her up with a kiss on the forehead, and we got dressed and ready for 11. Grant knocked on the door and escorted us down to the dining room for the lunch buffet. Then after it was time for my interview with some local radio station. I don’t mean to sound ignorant, but I don’t listen to radio stations anyways because I hook up my iPod when I’m driving in my truck. That way you don’t have to listen to the same 10 songs every day. At the interview family and guests were asked to wait in their lobby.
“Hello Scotty, how was your flight?” Was their first question..
I decided to keep it funny and answer with; “I never knew how tiring it all is.”
“So, you’ve never flown before?”
“There was no need to, where I grew up everything that you needed was within an hour drive away.”
“Where do you come from?”
“This small town called Garner in North Carolina.”
“Wow that’s a long way from Milwaukee, huh?”
“Yeah my girlfriend and I drove up to Wisconsin a few days before I auditioned.”
“Aw that was my next question, so I guess you’re not single, you know for all of your lady fans out there. But how did you two meet?”
“We’ve known each other for all our lives and I was friends with her brother…” I broke off midsentence and they asked me what was wrong. I explained Travis’s sudden death and they apologized.
“Do you think the death of your best friend brought you closer to his sister?”
“I mean yeah, but I know the feelings for each other had always been there, it was just a matter of time.” That answer got a few ‘awws.’
“Well on a lighter note, did you ever think you would make it this far in the competition?”
“You know anything can happen, yeah it’d be great to win, but it’s not everything. I can just go back to my original life. It’s not like I’m depending on this.”
“That’s a good way to think of it, and stay positive, even though a lot of the people here have been rooting for you since the beginning.”
“Why thank y’all for that and make sure to vote for me. Oh and thanks guys for having me on your show.”
“It was great having you Scotty, hope to talk again sometime soon, no matter the outcome of the show.”
I thanked them again and met Emily back in the lobby of the radio station. Grant brought us back to the hotel and we asked if we could go sight-seeing. We both really wanted to see the Hollywood sign. He said it wasn’t a good idea since it was getting dark and it was a little bit of a walk to get to the actual sign. He said he’d take us to the trail in the morning, and to get some more sleep because the studio opened for those who wanted to practice tomorrow.
And so we did, more sleep. I wasn’t complaining, we’re lazy teenagers who need sleep.
