The Meeting

THE aura the girls exuded alone was enough to make heads turn as they walked into the restaurant. They did not cat-walk. Cat walking would be considered an utterly unfit description for the way they moved. They had their own style of walking, one so unique and different and so...natural but nevertheless could catch the attention of anyone, and it did.

The two boys waiting for them at the table they walked up to looked up at them. One smiled. He was brown-skinned with a handsome face and a killer smile. He flashed that smile at them and momentarily caught them off guard. Then he stood up straight and outstretched his hand.

"Hi, I'm Emiko," he said in a smooth baritone voice. "I'm very pleased to meet you."

Nina and Bella looked at his hand and then at each other. Nina shrugged, Bella rolled her eyes. Nina gave her a look, Bella cocked her head in thought.

Emiko was looking confused now. His arm was still outstretched politely and the girls seemed to be talking...with their faces?

He was considering withdrawing his hand when Nina grabbed it and laughed delightedly.

"I'm Nini Jackson. It's actually Nina but I prefer Nini," she said, stroking his palm with her thumb.

"Oh...um...okay," he stuttered. "Nini then. Please, do have your seats."

The girls both sat opposite the boys.

Bella lifted her legs and folded them on the table. Her legs were a few inches from the second boy's face.

He looked up from his phone for the first time since they arrived. Bella studied him.

He was light skinned but not too light, more like dusty brown and he had nice lips.

Perfectly formed.

He wasn't smiling and she was sure he didn't smile much at all. In fact, she was not only sure that he didn't smile much because it was his nature, but she was very sure he wasn't smiling right now because he did not like her.

And that made her smile.

"You do know that you're in a restaurant, don't you, Miss?" he said coldly.

She laughed heartily. "Do I look like I care?" she asked, cocking an eyebrow.

"Get your feet off the table," he ordered in a harsher tone.

A smirk formed on her lips.

"Make me."

They glared at each other for a few seconds before Emiko broke it up.

"Hey!" he yelled at them. "Enough of that."

Neither of them moved, they both held their stares. Any second later and one would have bet that they would've pounced on each other, but Bella relaxed when Nina touched her shoulder.

They turned to look at each other. Nina shook her head in disapproval.

Bella sighed in defeat and turned back to the second boy who was still glowering at her.

"Joshua, isn't it? Joshua Pere? Am I right?"

His face registered shock then quickly switched back to anger.

"Sorry about him," Emiko apologized. "My best friend has anger issues," he gave a small laugh.

"It's okay," she said haughtily and turned to face Joshua. "It's nothing I can't handle. Right, Nina?"

Nina groaned and shook her head again. She still had Emiko's hand in hers and was still rubbing it slowly and Emiko seemed to have no problem with that. He kept staring at her in awe.

"I'm sorry about this, Emi. Can I call you Emi? Of course, I can, can't I?" she giggled and smiled sultrily.

"Sure," he beamed at her.

Joshua noticed what was going on and did not fail to hide his disgust. He eyed them once and went back to his phone.

"Well, we heard that you guys are the best in class so I told Bel here-"

"Bella," Bella interrupted, correcting her friend.

Nina laughed and Bella went back to shaking her feet sideways and checking out her nails, acting like she didn't care about what was going on... or about anything at all.

Meanwhile, her actions were seriously getting on Joshua's nerves but he was determined not to let it show so he continued clicking and scrolling down on his phone acting as though he didn't care too.

In fact, Nina and Emiko were the only ones that looked interested in the meeting.

"Bella and I," Nina continued," were thinking of forming a study group with you guys. Well actually, I was thinking study couples. You know, just the two of us...and the two of them. Or any way you want it to be, your pick," she smiled at him.

What they didn't notice at that moment was the way Bella and Joshua froze at the same time when Nina said 'study couples'.

"What?!" they chorused, startling Emiko and Nina.

Bella said matter-of-factly, "I can't work with him."

"And I sure as hell can't work with this stuck up bitch!" Joshua yelled.

Nina gasped audibly and Bella slammed a palm on the table loudly. "Mind your words, you dumbass," she said softly, but her face was poised enough to inflict harm.

"No, you mind your fucking attitude, lady. The fuck is wrong with you?" he retorted.

"You're the one that's got nothing upstairs, asswipe!" Bella shouted and stood up angrily.

Joshua growled.

"Enough, Bella! You're causing a scene!" Nina yelled.

Bella stopped for a second and looked around. Sure enough, everyone was staring at her.

"What?!" she yelled at everyone and no one in particular. Then she turned to Nina. "You'd better find me a new tutor, Nina...if you don't want bloodshed."

Joshua scoffed and she gave him a withering glare. She grabbed her purse and walked out angrily, feeling everyone's stares at her back.

She didn't care one bit.
